My wife is a huge Ganesha devotee. He is her Ishta Devata. For her, Ganesha is number one even over Shiva, Parvati and Kali and Durga. Her Father was strict, strict, religious. There is no doubt she got this love for Ganesha from Him. He was a great man. Great man, I worship him, he is gune.

She has many Ganesha Murtis. These are quite outstanding, amazing and not common as you see in temple stores. She has a five inch tall dancing Ganesha that is amazing.

In India, we have crystal encrusted Ganeshas and Krishnas. I like them. Then we have Mata images which have been perforated by pins and there is a light source behind them. So the holes shine. My daughter has one such and it is very nice.

My wife and son selected the Ganesha which we will bring to our house on Ganesha Chaturthi. Keep it for the minimum period, i.e., one and a half days. It is a small Ganesha, perhaps around 18 inches (I have not seen the photo that they took on the mobile). I will post the image. However, Ganesha puja has been taken up in a huge way by Delhi residents and North Indians. My wife said that the idols were lined in the street for half a kilometer at the place where they chose their Ganesha. And there are many places in Delhi where idols are sold. I am sure good business for potters. Now we have to arrange the decoration in the room.

Out temple will be packed, as almost all groups will show up for this, and Boss is making a clay murthi for later immersion in this city's river.

Nice, JaiBholeNath. Wonder how many went through the exercise of making their own Gajanana? Ganapati Bappa Moriya.

Our Gaesha was a plaster of paris cast. Perhaps we will buy a earthern Ganesha the next time. Would be easier to dissolve at the time of Visarjana.

We had asked Ganapati to visit our house for one and a half day. He kept the promise. Now we want him to stay for more time. But that cannot be. That will disturb his schedule. Of course, next year, we can request him for a longer stay at our place.

AND along with laddos, do you know what is offered to, is considered mendatory to offer to Ganesha? Grass! Does he not have an elephants head? So, bundles of grass stuck in every part of body where possible along with flowers. Next time we will make the mantap with sugarcane stalks. Should be available in this season. Hindus and their quaint symbolism . Stupid pagans. :)

Our Puja enclosure, Bala Gopala, and some other other images (there are more):
There is space for all Gods and Goddesses, though it is a bit crowded. :)

Our temple had probably the largest crowd ever. Most likely 1000+ but it's really hard to tell. When Ganesha was on parade, it seemed crowded, then when I went inside, the upstairs was crowded. Then i went downstairs, and it was crowded too. Most likely they ran out of prasadam. We went home at 9, just as Ganesha finished his pradakshina.

Our Ganapati was sent off today evening. There was thousands of people, rich and poor alike, at the designated Visarjan place in our area. There were quite a few Sikhs too with their Ganapatis. Ganapati puja is just as popular in Delhi as in Mumbai. It is a matter of time when Delhi also will have its Lalbagh*.

* Lalbagh Ganapati is traditionally the biggest Ganesha idol in Mumbai.
