Garner Ted Armstrong

I am new to religious discussions and recently came across a couple articles written by Garner Ted Armstrong. Some of it seems to make some sense but much is very different from what most religions teach. Does anyone know anything about this religion. I want to keep an open mind and hear good and bad opinions.

He seems to combine Christian ideas like believing in Jesus and being baptized with Jewish ideas like not eating pork and keeping the Saturday sabbath. Just trying to see if anyone has any more information about him and his religion.

Well, you could start by looking up his father, Herbert W. Armstrong. You could look up the World Wide Church of G-d (with an "o" between G and d). You could look up Anglo-Israelism also known as British Israelism. There's a whole slew of information available over the internet that you could look up.... if you want to.

A Christian-Jewish synthesis doesn't seem particularly remarkable, seems like a return to origins, actually.

I think it can be compelling to read articles by people or groups like this which focus on current events, but it is wise to be careful. From personal experience, I'd say this religious group holds to several false teachings and is a cult to avoid. Years ago when Herbert Armstrong ( Garner Ted Armstrong's father) ran the Worldwide Church of God, I probably had and read every magazine and booklet they published and almost became a member. Thankfully, God had other plans and He lead me to Jesus Christ. There was quite an upheaval in this group with many splinter groups resulting, yet many of the same un-biblical teachings remained.. I have since spent hours of research on British-Israelism and Christian Identity and consider such thinking or teachings to be opposed the Word of God.

Apparently, Garner Ted Armstrong made a guest appearance on "Hee Haw."

Hope that helps.

it was a cult, plain and simple. I was there as a child in the 70s. Don't ask me about theology and teachings,I could care less about those fine points. Their job was to destroy peoples lives

Does an appearance on Hee Haw lend credibility to a religious figure, or not? Perhaps they can get the Pope on? Does he play any musical instruments?

that's cute and all but marriages and finances and peoples lives were destroyed by these fools and now all the splinter groups are doing the same thing. I was lucky to only have to be involved till my 4th grade year and having a mom who was strong and could think for herself

Those kind of back and forth debates can literally go on forever and ever and ever.

My consession then was yea, one word can have a trillion different meanings.

what do you mean ? there was no back and forth debate. They were calling them out on all the wrong they did. You need to actually read a few things on there. Are you remotely saying WCG was right about something ? they were there to make money off people and nothing more

Churches and ministries and religions in general to a larger or smaller extent are all pretty much centered around making money off people if you ask me. It's the basic mo of the industry. CoG isn't really that far apart in that regard.

I was interested in the rag when I was a teen and young adult as it held some interesting views on the Bible and Christianity in general during that period that drew my attention. Subscribed to it for a slew of years, and was fascinated by the material as it encouraged a way of thinking that presented a challenge to traditional views.

Armstrong, specifically the. WCoG, dosent hold any sway at present no more than any other religious publication, and dropped it long ago when Hebert Armstrong died.

Now it's all just collateral reading being I no longer ascribe to Christianity at all.

I'm of the opinion however if people want to spend all their money and go full monty, then that's their business weither it a cult, or the all saving grace of the universe. If they're happy, they're happy. If not, then they're not.

It's a fact of life.
