Gay adoption is good for children

Autodidact

This doesn't seem like the best forum but couldn't find one more suitable. I would like to discuss the assertion that permitting gay and lesbian people to adopt is beneficial to children. Would anyone care to argue the other side?

Hmm, I've never really gave the subject much thought.

My instinct disagrees with it I must admit. I'm not against queers or anything, whatever floats their boat, as long as they keep to themselves. but I don't think they would be good for raising children.

First of all the homosexuals are not suppose to have kids, I guess it's like some kind of genetic defect or something, but people who are attracted to the same sex are obviously not ment to reproduce, therefore they are not ment to have children. Not only that but the child would be ridiculed and made fun of most of their life for it, which would probably lead them to depression and all kind of mental disorders. Gay people are usually really sensitive to feelings and things of that nature, and it would probably rub off on their children way to much. Parents have more influence on their children than anyone else.

Oh come on! You can do better than that!

Can I? Care to argue my case?

That's my initial thoughts for sure. I'll continue to ponder about it.

I am very much against permitting gay and lesbian couples to adopt children in any case where the child's parents are still living and the child has not been given up for adoption or made a ward of the state.

Does that count?

;)

I have not met to many homosexuals in my day, but all the ones I have met were just really crazy. I met a lesbian about three months ago and she was like so argumentative I could not stand to be around her, she always had to argue and be right, very competitive, and very sensitive to things, a bit uptight. And all the gay guys I've met are very flamboyent and just overly feminine, I know not all gay guys are like that, but all the ones I have met that are open about it sure are.

I'm sure a homosexual couple would be great at caring and nuturing a child, I'm just not sure how the child would turn out ...

I can't see how it would be harmful, unless the adoptive parents were some kind of freaks.

Yes, we can see that. Might I suggest doing so?

My instinct disagrees with it I must admit. I'm not against queers or anything, whatever floats their boat, as long as they keep to themselves.
Yes, I feel the same way about heterosexuals.
but I don't think they would be good for raising children.
Again, actually thinking might change your opinion.

First of all the homosexuals are not suppose to have kids, I guess it's like some kind of genetic defect or something, but people who are attracted to the same sex are obviously not ment to reproduce, therefore they are not ment to have children.
Meant by whom? btw, Approximately 1/3 of lesbians do have children.
Not only that but the child would be ridiculed and made fun of most of their life for it, which would probably lead them to depression and all kind of mental disorders.
In general, we do not view prejudice to prevent people from having children. Wouldn't it be better to combat any prejudice that might cause such behavior? My experience is actually that my kids have not experienced this, not at all in fact.
Gay people are usually really sensitive to feelings and things of that nature, and it would probably rub off on their children way to much.
You find that gay people are overly sensitive to ridicule and mockery? More than straight people? That doesn't jibe with my experience. Maybe it's because people don't often get ridiculed for being straight?

kdrier. Do I really need to point out how silly, bigoted and wrong this post is? Can't you see the problems with it?
First, you've met many, many homosexuals in your day; they just weren't wearing their big pink "I'm a homosexual" button, so you didn't know it.
In general, do you find it valid to generalize from a single example? See any problems with that at all?
What is wrong with being flamboyant or feminine? I enjoy flamboyant and feminine men, and find that many of them make wonderful fathers. Might I also suggest that you have met many sober, masculine gay men, you just didn't realize that they were gay. This may be in part because of your stereotyped view of gay men.

I'm sure a homosexual couple would be great at caring and nuturing a child, I'm just not sure how the child would turn out ...
Well, have you read any research on the subject? Do you know any gay or lesbian families?

My general thought is that it is better to be brought up in a traditional home with a mother and father. In lieu of that, being brought up in a home where people care for you is better than being shuttled around foster homes.

lol, sorry, like I said I don't have much experience in the field, nor have gave it much thought, but you asked what I thought. My intelligence on the subject is slim to none, obviously. I do appreciate the critism though, I hope my opinion is not offensive, just the way I was raised...I'm a small town guy.

Maybe your right, maybe homosexuals would be great at raising a kid.

And no, I've never met nor heard of any gay or lesbian families in my general facinities. I'm not against it, but I don't agree with it. I think children should be raised in the customary mother/father household.

Wow! It's been a while since I've seen such blatant prejudices displated so proudly in public.

Prejudices or not, that's what I've experienced from the homosexual population, and that's all I can base my opinion off of.

do you find it valid to generalize from a single example? See any problems with that at all?
What is wrong with being flamboyant or feminine?

No, I don't find it absolutely valid to generalize off of my examples, but that's all I know, I've never cared enough to research it. All I know is out of the handful of homosexuals I get the impression that they would raise a girly sensitive man, or a strong aggressive women, I know that's stereotypical but that's just my impression based on the personalities of the homosexuals I have met, and have seen on "television". The only problem I have with flamboyant men is that it's incredibly annoying (sorry, just being honest) and I just don't want to see a scenario where they would be interacting with their kid or what they would talk about. Sorry if that is wrong and insensitive. Again, this does not apply to all homosexuals having kids.

Meant by whom? btw, Approximately 1/3 of lesbians do have children.

Not ment by anyone in particuliar.. whoever or whatever created us I guess. Homosexuals can not produce a child, bottom line, so genetically they are not suppose to have children. As long as they were caring parents and not trying to ram all kinds of weird stuff into their kids head making them mentally unstable I would not have a problem with it. I would obviously rather a traditional family than a gay one though.

Hard for me to say. I guess I'm just not really too sure how different things are in a family when there are homosexual parents as opposed to the traditional parents. Looking at my own life, I was grateful that I had a father that I was able to share things with that I couldn't with my mother. He was the one I played catch with, when to sporting events with, you know, all of the guy stuff. I guess it's hard for me to imagine what my life would have been like if I had been raised by a lesbian couples. I'm sure I could have been lucky and had a lesbian parent that was into those things as well but I think that having a male father made things better because I know he could relate to me and in a way I could relate to him. This is the main reason why I tend to favor traditional families. Not that they are always perfect and my scenario isn't always the case but it's what I've come up with when reflecting on my childhood.

On a side note, I would rather a homosexual couple that cared for a child efficiently, than a traditional family that didn't, I guess it's situational. Having parents is better than not having parents at the end of the day, for sure.

Really, the question should be; What happens if a child of same-sex parents grows up heterosexual but imbued with a dissociative complex regarding the opposite sex due to the parents negative attitude towards their opposite sex? For example, the daughter of a Lesbian couple who wants to engage men sexually, but is emotional stunted in relation to males due to her parents lifetime of treating the opposite sex like the untouchable "other". Where is her sex life and prospect of happiness in relationships going to wind up? Likewise, the son of a male homosexual couple who is sexually attracted to girls. What's his template? A boy without a mother is going to make a very f**ked up man, and a girl without male idols is going to be disadvantaged in attempting to forge lasting and emotionally fulfilling relationships with men. IMO, only...

You seem to be assuming that being homosexual implies hating the opposite sex.
