Gen Z hates periods

This came up on CNN last night and I looked into it. It seems that Gen Zs do get offended by periods. (That's "full stops" to Brits and others, nothing to do with menstruation). Here's a link.

Gen Z Hates The ‘Full Stop’

My reaction? Once, young people were known for brashness, insensitivity and not considering others, but were never accused of being overly sensitive to perceived rudeness.

"Wahhhh! You put a period on a sentence! That's so rude! Booohooo!"

What is going on?

Oh, they also grade the meanings of "OK", depending on how you spell it. Ok, OK, K, Okay, all have different emotional weights.

In the link someone jokingly suggested removing all punctuation and even the spaces between words. Let's try that last one ...

"Thepenismightierthanthesword". Hmmm.

I frequently omit full-stops.

It is a bad habit of mine, I never consciously decided to do it, I don't know how or when I began doing this......

Don't know if I'm a member of "generation Z" I am not sure what exactly that is

And yes, I do think they make things sound more final, or perhaps even formal?

Future generations may communicate just like the mutants in Beneath the Planet of the Apes

Gen Z grew up largely communicating on social media. Some platforms, like Twitter, have limited space for one’s messages.
So of course they’d come up with their own “dos and don’ts.” And since their communication is mostly done on “messaging platforms” that will include their own “etiquette” regarding punctuation.
It’s like a form of slang rules, if you like. That’s what this article is “studying” basically. The new etiquette rules found in linguistic usage by the youth. Etiquette, mind you, that all generations have formed by themselves over the years, it’s just that now that will include punctuation as well as slang.

My generation did the same using MSN messenger back in the day. Elaborate messages could be sent using very few words and/or emojis. And indeed punctuation played a part. Not to the extent of today but it still played a part in communication.
This is just another form of lingo.
The article overly dramatises it, by the looks of it. Possibly just to make it amusing for the reader

Even for Gen Z I'm skeptical that this is actually a thing.
I have head this from other sources. The period at the end of a sentence in a text is often seen as a sign of aggression. For me it is just the way I was taught to end a sentence.

Bit if any body wants some aggression I will end my post with some..............................................................................................................................................................................................................
