Gen Z hates periods

I have head this from other sources. The period at the end of a sentence in a text is often seen as a sign of aggression. For me it is just the way I was taught to end a sentence.

Bit if any body wants some aggression I will end my post with some..............................................................................................................................................................................................................
Then our school systems have truly failed.

Not necessarily. This tends to apply to the world of texting. I read the article and it appears that punctuation is alive and well in the world of email and beyond. The article states this and it was also in reference to texting that I had heard this previously.

I rather suspect that it's nothing more than not liking to be constrained at all, not even by "rules" of grammar. Gen Z is the first cohort to grow up digitally literate, which in many ways seems to me almost the polar opposite of actually "literate."

This came up on CNN last night and I looked into it. It seems that Gen Zs do get offended by periods. (That's "full stops" to Brits and others, nothing to do with menstruation). Here's a link.

Gen Z Hates The ‘Full Stop’

My reaction? Once, young people were known for brashness, insensitivity and not considering others, but were never accused of being overly sensitive to perceived rudeness.

"Wahhhh! You put a period on a sentence! That's so rude! Booohooo!"

What is going on?

Oh, they also grade the meanings of "OK", depending on how you spell it. Ok, OK, K, Okay, all have different emotional weights.

In the link someone jokingly suggested removing all punctuation and even the spaces between words. Let's try that last one ...

"Thepenismightierthanthesword". Hmmm.
I've come across this in the context of text messages.

The 13yr old daughter of a friend thinks it aggressive to use full stops on text messages. When I queried this with my 19yr old son, he confirmed it is the case, though he says sensible people realise that old fogeys like me don't mean anything by it. (!)

But so far as I know it only applies to text messages and other casual media comms. No one thinks you can write an essay, or an email, without full stops.

They can't even be bothered to write in cursive! Too hard!

You know, making a period takes a lot of effort for some people.

Maybe they will push for a disability clause that that exempts all the damage making a period causes.

You know, emotional and physical hardships that can result from making a period.

Oh, dear -- you just reminded me of a terrible old (gay) joke. I couldn't possibly repeat it here......but

Oh, that old queen's on her period -- her gums are bleeding.

How about this one.

Did you hear about the cross-eyed seamstress?

She couldn't mend straight.

I was thinking along the lines of Onion.

Please let it be Onion material...
This thread had me looking over text echanges, and indeed my youngest nephews don't use periods (these two were late after the main herd).
And because you said that, I'm glad it's not the Onion.
