Gillette Commercial

If you're going to ask what kind of woman I'm talking about , then you obviously haven't seen the Gillette commercial.

I did see the commerical, and the only women featured were those being harassed or condescended to in the dramatization. So again, wtf are you talking about?

Standing up against bullying and sexism?
Well first you teach your son how to fight and fight hard and be able to take a hit. That's how you teach your children to deal with bullies. If they can't, life will have to teach them and hopefully they'll be able to pick that up over time . Unfortunately most go into the latter category including myself. After enough being pushed and bullying around, you do get tougher. The sign is when you start pushing back and it's a damm good feeling when you first learn through the School of Hard Knocks that you can stand on your own two feet instead of running to somebody to get coddled. Ever listen to Johnny Cash, "A Boy Named Sue"? Something like that.
Of course we should teach kids to stick up for themselves, and for each other. We should also teach our kids not to be little snot-nosed brats for targeting other kids for just being different. Picking fights unprovoked, especially with those who are smaller and/or out numbered isn't "manly", it's cowardly. There is nothing "coddling" about correcting bad behavior, it's called parenting. Kids should be taught respect, manners, responsibility, etc. The douche bag adults that we have to deal with in our daily lives weren't properly dealt with by their parents when they were little snot-nosed brats.

Like you said it's a dramatization. It's not real. Most men are simply not like that, yet oblivious to the facts, some incorrigible people still want to paint a picture otherwise and demand that men do better when they don't have to. That's what I'm talkin about.

Of course I don't expect commercials to portray reality accurately anyways. It's just a cheezy way to get women and the effeminate to buy their razors as Gillette apparently attempts to rebrand themselves into something else feeling there's a potential market there.

Like it or not, most violent and sexual crimes are overwhelmingly committed by men. And how can we expect different when we make excuses that "boys will be boys" and promote violence as a first resort? No one is painting all men as violent rapists though. But if someone is doing those things, more often than not it is a man doing them.

The statistics themselves might show that , but the demographic is most men are not like that.

It's like saying crime is committed mostly by blacks without acknowledging that most blacks are not criminals.

Of course most men aren't like that, but there's still enough to where bullying and sexual harassment are still prevalent sociological problems.

I still don't understand how stating "bullying and sexual harassment are bad. Set a good example." equates to being "effeminate."
I have a 3 year old son. If I teach him to treat others as he would like to be treated; with fairness and respect, then this will magically turn him into a pansy?

This is indeed a big market.
You're on to something here....the commercial looks actually designed
to sell Venus razors to women. Very clever...it builds comradery with
the customer base, but without their feeling manipulated.
One risk for them though....will any male customers be so repelled that
they switch to another product?

Except when it comes to violent crime and rape, men have been the majority offenders throughout history, across numerous cultures.

I'm from Earth, & observing some sexist attitudes there.
How about you?
On that much I agree.

Which is why I see nothing to complain about in the Gillette ad, and I find its satire genuinely funny and by no means offensive.

Apparently, because a man is supposed to fight his bullies with fists, apparently even if a teacher is a bully.
Maybe instead of Gillette we could focus instead on the Marilyn Manson song "Use Your Fists," and his criticizing being on an "American hate style kick." And definitely, it's not their song, we can't all get along because it's too hard to hold hands because their hands are a fist.

That's weird, because your previous post provided a pretty good example of the kind of "boys will be boys" attitude the advert depicted men having:

"Standing up against bullying and sexism?

What happened?
The clip I saw was some soldiers complaining about having to shave without hot water.

That said, the ad I heard described in this thread sounds like marketing genius. How many times has the brand name Gillette been mentioned?

And also, how gay is the name "Gillette"? It sounds like a gay French porn star.

And further, I would bet good money that women buy a lot more razors than men do. My mom always bought them for my dad.

I think that was in the other thread that I started a while back. I don't know if anyone reposted it in this thread or not. It's one of my favorite flicks. Although later on, they threatened to give Franko a dry shave. That would have been nasty.
