Global Climate Change Emergency

Figured it would be a good idea to create a thread specifically for facts, information, and updates about the global climate change emergency (primarily triggered by human activity) for anybody who actually wants to keep abreast of what's going on. Please let's keep attitudes and opinions out of this thread. We have the rest of the forums for all that.

"A red extreme heat warning has been issued by the Met Office for parts of England next week, meaning a risk to life is likely as temperatures could hit 40C (104F).

It points to there being a danger to life, with the risk of illness not limited to vulnerable people.

This highest warning, covering London and parts of central England, warns of widespread impacts to people's lives."

- Heatwave: Met Office issues red extreme heat warning

"Population-wide adverse health effects experienced, not limited to those most vulnerable to extreme heat, leading to serious illness or danger to life. Government advice is that 999 services should be used in emergencies only; seek advice from 111 if you need non-emergency health advice. - Substantial changes in working practices and daily routines will be required - High risk of failure of heat-sensitive systems and equipment, potentially leading to localised loss of power and other essential services, such as water or mobile phone services"

Climate change related deaths is spiraling downward.

Average deaths are declining as well. The Danish environmentalist Bjorn Lomborg has reported that climate-related deaths averaged 485,000 a year in the 1920s. Between 2010 and 2019, there was an average of 18,362 annual climate-related deaths. In 2020, the death rate dropped to 14,893. Based on what has been reported, there have been 5,569 climate-related deaths in 2021 so far.

Human Progress - Media Bias/Fact Check (mediabiasfactcheck.com)

Overall, we rate Human Progress Right-Center Biased based on the promotion of free-market capitalism and Libertarian perspectives. We also rate them Mostly Factual in reporting, rather than High, due to misleading reporting on climate change, otherwise, this is a reliable source.

I saw in France that they were already having heat wave lockdowns. Banned concerts and outdoor gatherings until government officials declare the heatwave over.
Facts, right? France has determined that the government can decide it’s too hot for you to go outside. COVID lockdowns are sooo last year. Climate lockdowns, here we come!
Oof maybe a bit too much attitudes? My bad chief

"These trees dwarf us. They've been here for up to 3,400 years and give us a sense of perspective. They are temples of nature," said Ed Smith, a senior forest ecologist with the Nature Conservancy. "There's a spiritual value to these groves."

But now the buildup of fuels allows fires to burn hotter and higher. In addition, climate change has led to deeper droughts, drying out the land so it's more fire-prone.

Yes, the "Global Climate Change Emergency" is upon us. In India it bringsw excessive rains resulting in floods and land lides. Since 2we cannot do much about the 'Climate Change Emergency' (the developed nations are not going to reduce their carbon footprint in a hurry), so the other option is to handle the effects of the 'Climate Change Emergency' in a better way (not that I have the solutions). Perhaps save the flood waters in some way, dig ponds, start pisciculture, make easier exits for flood water.

What invention exists now that did not exist in 1920. Think about it for a while.

You can't refute climate change by using extremely stupid arguments.

There's a three day festival in Finsbury Park in London this weekend, starting today. Thousands of young people drinking and dancing in the sun, what could possibly go wrong? I hope they've all brought lots of sun-cream, and they don't run out of water.

Fortunately it's cooler today, and there's breeze. Set to soar again on Monday and Tuesday though. Will be interesting to see how many employers are proactive in looking after their employees.

Which is why fact checking is bs. A feel good endeavor because like all collective endeavors, it's prone to corruption and bias like everything else is.
Fact checkers have to be able to support their claims. if they cannot then you would have a valid claim. You do not like fact checkers just because you have a tendency to use bogus sources. The fact checkers tend to check on each other. It is not that hard. Usually a site will have list of the articles that they checked and busted.

Please note that the one attempt to refute Politico was done using a very biased website.

What one has to do is to site articles where they were clearly wrong and how they were wrong to refute them.

Deaths are only one element to the story. As we have more AC in more places life can be protected since the 1920's. But there are other effects, like crops. Energy demand can cause price spikes and loss of power supply. More heat waves are coming and that will affect more people in poverty. Let's note that government programs (socialism to the far right) has done a lot of work to help provide fans and AC units for those who cannot afford them so those in poverty don't suffer and die from exposure to heat.
