I Am Blessed
Hello everyone. Some of you may remember me, some may not. But I am back and I am curious of something...

I know all of us Christians have a certain way we believe. Some of us are more strict than the others, but I just wanted to know...how do you all observe or practice your religion?

For me, I go to church whenever I can and I give praise to God everyday for whatever I am thankful for. I do not judge another individual's beliefs and I am proud of who I am. I welcome those who are not believers or Christians into my life with open arms, and I do not push my religion upon them.

So I guess you could say I'm an un-strict Christian. I'm very open about my religion and I'm also open to other people's religion.

I try to follow Jesus' two commandments. I pray in private. I witness by challenging people to be compassionate with me, and forgiving them when they fail to do so in return.

I do not believe that church or the bible are the most important things for faith, but they can be helpful. CS Lewis, Last Temptation of Christ, Jesus Christ Superstar, and being an atheist for a decade helped much more than church or any bible helped me.

The most important thing is trying to walk the Way that Jesus demonstrated and told us that we are all capable of walking. His death isn't important, it's the dedication to stick with compassion even when it meant His own death. Resurrection isn't important, salvation is granted through the Way. Salvation is given when we forgive ourselves for our imperfections, and when we keep trying to follow the Way despite setbacks.

I'm pretty strict with the two commandments. Everything else is context.

A refreshing attitude.

And a correct one.

We are all brothers and sisters, irrespective of what faith we follow.
And it is our deeds, the accumulated acts of goodness and kindness, that define us and are the true measure of our worth.
Service is the coin of the spirit.

I do my best to live in and abide by Christ's commands. I go to church for Vespers on Saturday and Liturgy on Sunday, and say morning prayers (I need to work on getting into the habit of saying evening prayers too ), as well as prayers before and after meals, and before work, and various other occasions if I remember to do so. I try to read from my Bible (I could always use work in that department >_>), and occasionally throughout the day I'll meditate on some bits of Scripture that pop into my head, or sing some hymns I know from church. I say the Jesus Prayer often throughout the day--"Lord Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God, have mercy on me, a sinner." I do my best to say it while walking, while working, or while doing any sort of physical action. Sometimes I'll read from something like the Philokalia, Sayings of the Desert Fathers, or any number of Orthodox books on Saints' lives, stories, teaching, or inspiration.

I'm strict with myself about it, but I could be much stricter. :p As far as my interactions with other people go, I definitely don't beat people over the head with Bibles. I typically only bring up Orthodox Christianity if they're not happy with where they're at religiously. This is the case especially if I meet someone who's grown disenchanted with Western Christianity, and would leave Christ altogether unless I stepped in and showed them a completely different side of Christianity that they were seeking in their hearts, but hadn't yet been able to find. I do my best to be like Christ to others--but those are some really big shoes to fill. ;)
