If I had to guess, the reason you didn't get many responses is because you assume your God. You assume one god. You assume His existence and the responses you offer are completely uncompromising on that front. I, for one, have no appropriate option to select that even vaguely represents my beliefs on the subject, therefore I have no choice but to not answer.

Bah, you've done it again Thief, no option for the unbeliever! As a fictional character, yes I'd say god (I'm assuming the biblical god in your case) is unbalanced, a terrible megalomaniac. What would you think of a "human" leader of people who commands his followers to worship him on pain of death? That is a troubled individual, with an ego way out of control!

What would you think of someone who permits slavery, who outlaws certain foods for no good reason, who commands his "people" to kill certain individuals within society, even children if they are "stubborn and rebellious" towards their parents (stone them to death)? The honest answer, I would posit, is that such an individual would be labelled insane by everyone except the insane!

Were some of the authors of the bible insane? At times it seems that way, especially in the OT where the narrative becomes rambling and repetitive, bordering on the incoherent. I'm thinking of Job in particular; that rant that god gives off at the end makes him sound like a violent drunk standing over his children, belt in hand. I've also heard a theory that Revelation may have been written by someone tripping on magic mushrooms, which were apparently available in the region at the time. Sounds plausible, I've never done drugs, but it reads like a psychedelic trip!

That seems to me to be impossible. At least assuming you are talking monotheism. Sanity is measured against the average mental functions of the species in question.

We can't say that, for example, a praying mantis is insane merely because it engages in sexual cannibalism which is a vast deviation from human mentality, because when compared to other praying mantis', eating its mates is completely normal.

There's only one member of the "deity" species, again assuming monotheism, therefore, whatever its state of mind, it must be "sane", since it is the only thing it can be compared to as a baseline.

Sorry to ruin your so edgy question. :p

I'm slowly working my way up to omnipotence and omnipresence. Once I get there I'll either answer your question or smite you.

Choice b) There is no Jehovah, Allah, or Jesus and it is simply the men who were involved in writing the scripture and founding the religion that are insane. (there is no "doesn't exist" answer in the post!)

My argument for this is that the religions basically portray a deity as a petulant child with infinite power. It seems the sort of thing that an ignorant human comes up with, rather than how a divine figure would want others to know him. If he is all-powerful, then certainly he has no reason to flaunt that power - he can undo any tragedy in the most innocuous of ways; that doesn't happen... hence, doesn't exist... at all... :D

Insanity ? ........ God ?
That's like giving Nirvana the same beginning and end,
the reason for existing at all,
do they, or it, really exist, I have to wander !

Currently the galaxy's spookiest paraplegic
Various verses in multiple holy books would suggest that the Abrahamic god (presuming that this is what the OP is referring to) is completely whack-a-doodle.

God's standards.

So given the information I've provided in this thread, you're saying I'm the smartest person in the room.

While I appreciate the accolade, I don't believe this is necessarily the case.

...unless of course you were referencing a different god.
