God Paradox

If God is omnipotent, Can he create a stone that is so heavy he cannot lift it?

If he can, then he is not omnipotent because there is something he cannot do; lift the stone

If he can't, then he is not omnipotent because he cannot make the stone.

God, therefore, cannot be omnipotent.

You guys have probably all heard that before. I heard it today and thought it was really interesting so I rushed to first religious discussion forum I could find on google and wacked it in here!

So, any thoughts?

It's more polite to look around a bit before you post, that way you avoid totally redundant posts. God and the Rock. Also, this has nothing to do with Evolution vs. Creation.

We have. Do a search and find the multitude of threads about the same thing.

Wunderbar. But decorum is, go to the New Members intro forum and tell us about yourself. :)

So, any thoughts?

Yes, this question is a redundant red-herring, as it is an exercise in somantic intellectuality. GOD Himself IS THE ROCK. The answer is in the question revealed by the question, you see...

If God is omnipotent, Can he create a stone that is so heavy he cannot lift?
I believe that the person who came up with this question, must of had in there
mind that God was a man, cuz there likening the acts of God to the acts of man,
i hope that made sense to you, God not only has the earth on His finger,
He also has the countless stars, Galaxies, Black holes etc under His Control.
Please when ever i say Hands or Eyes or Finger of God I'm not likening Him
to man, but God communicates to us in our Language and therefore shouldn't
liken them to us.

If he can, then he is not omnipotent because there is something he cannot do; lift the stone
If he can't, then he is not omnipotent because he cannot make the stone.
God, therefore, cannot be omnipotent.
When we HUMANS use the word EVERYTHING and apply it to God we limit Him, eg
Can God Create another God? NO why cuz whenever He creates something that
thing has a beginning, this shows there can never be any god but the One True
God, does this mean God is limited NO.
A Christian(not all of them) would say God became a man cuz He can
do everything,
I also believe God can do everything, but he cant be a man cuz, God can be known
without limiting Him to a physical object or being, also like the Hindus.

God is a witness i mean NO disrespect to anyone, its a very simple
question, but very hard to explain on the computer.

Good that you found us...
less good that you thought it might be new.
It is of course only man that tries to confuse himself with with feeble logic.
Think about it for a while and you will see it is a nonsense.

Is that polite? I don't think so. Was I polite and friendly and humble in my post? Yes, I was. You need to take a look at yourself before you call me inpolite.

See, now that was polite and friendly. Thank you.

Thanks for all your answers, really interesting!:)

God concepts were not developed in a logic course, but from ancient beliefs related to astrology, or nature, and then underwent fine-tuning as the traits of believers changed.
