God's purpose

Greetings!

What do you think is God's purpose for creating us humans?

The Baha'i scriptures say this:

O SON OF MAN!
Veiled in My immemorial being, and in the ancient eternity of My essence, I knew My love for thee; therefore I created thee, have engraved on thee Mine image and revealed to thee My beauty.

[The Hidden Words, Part One, #3]

And as to our purpose here, we see it as twofold:
  1. To acquire the spiritual virtues we'll need both here and in the Next Life, and
  2. To carry forward an ever-advancing, spiritually-based civilization.
And the purpose of religion is to show us HOW to go about this!

Best,

Bruce

I think that God created us for to be with Him and to be as perfect as He is, and to be happy.

gnostic said:
To worship him?

Not quite, but worshiping Him is a quite correct answer to what He has done to us.

gnostic said:
To be tested if we are worthy of a place in heaven?

This goes without saying, friend.
Free will, new potentialities created by choices, new alternatives - it's life, and we under testing every minute of it. And it's cool! :)

gnostic said:
Or is a game, he wanted to play because he was bored, and thought: "This place looks pretty remote, let's create humans to see what they would do with this world."

No, I don't think so.

gnostic said:
Or is there no purpose?

Definitely no.

gnostic said:
Was it accident in nature? Did life on earth began because the planet was in the right place and right time? Are we simply here as the result of cosmic alphabetic soup being cooked?

'No' multiplied by 3 :)

For this is what Jehovah has said, the Creator of the heavens, He the [true] God, the Former of the earth and the Maker of it, He the One who firmly established it, who did not create it simply for nothing, who formed it even to be inhabited: "I am Jehovah, and there is no one else isaiah 45;18
God’s purpose, is for the earth to be the habitation of man in perfection and happiness with eternal life.—Ps 37:11; 115:16; Isa 45:18; Re 21:3, 4. and that purpose will be accomplished , even though man is ruining the earth at the momment ,his purpose will come to completion :D

Sigh...
Free will is the biggest illusion man has ever known.

Definitely no.

Why? Because you want there to be a purpose, obviously.

Why do you think so? Because you don't want it to be an accident, obviously.

Can you support this view?

Not really. I'm not the one to decide. There's a purpose and I just inform people about it.
And I'm happy that there's one, too.

Dear Opethian, things don't happen just because some Mykola wants them to be - no matter how desperately I may long for them

God says, in Moses 1:39, "For behold, this is my work and my glory—to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man." Our whole purpose in life is to become like God. We were sent here to gain a body, because God has a tangible body, and be tested to find if we're worthy to come into our Heavenly Father's presence again.

I like your answer, because it is very much along the lines of what I believe. At lest this:-
and be tested to find if we're worthy to come into our Heavenly Father's presence again
(because I don't believe that God has a tangible body).

But that still doesn't really answer the question, does it ? I mean, why did he go to all that trouble, when we could all have been perfect in the beginning (when we were all a part of him).....so why makes us go through all the rigmarole?

I don't believe anyone can answer this question.

Agree.
God is Spirit, the Bible states this clearly (Jhn 4:24a: "God is a Spirit...").

michel said:
I mean, why did he go to all that trouble,

1) Who knows God's thoughts?
2) Probably, love. As it is with all that He does. Because love is so deeply in His character. It can be love - in all probability.

michel said:

We were, actually.

Good old free will. Choices. Choices all the time - left/right, right/wrong, wrongful/righteous, easy/difficult.
No one 'makes us go through'. It is just the way we live our lives. We choose, then reap the consequences of our choices.

Think different! What about some positive thinking? :)

aboody I didn't read all you post i just scanned one section and instantly found a bleedingly obvious mistake, The Galaxies are crashing into each other and everything else, ever heard of an asteroid? metorite? It's utter chaos out there mate. With a mistake like that even a child could see it's fair to say I didn't deem the rest of it worth reading.

This is a good question, christians and many other religions say if there is no god then there is no meaning\purpose to life if god has no purpose then he may as well not exist because otherwise he would supposedly be in the same boat as us.

God created the universe so He could evolve. His everlasting energy joins with random generated personalities that use their free will to choose morality.

No worship is required, just respect.

Heaven is ready and waiting for us all if we so desire it over selfishness on earth.

If it was a game then why reveal to prophets? Why would He send His Son?

It is impossible for life to be an accident. There are so many things that had to be incredibly precise for us to exist that it is an impossibility if left to chance alone.

The earth is like a thousand needles stacked one on top of another, end to end.

No it is not. Please give me reasons why you think so.

Very bad argument. No chance is an impossibility. The chance of getting any number rolling a 1000000000000000000000000-sided dice is 1/1000000000000000000000000. Yet, when you roll the dice, you will still get a number.

The reason you get a number is because it is designed to give you a number. There is no accident.

Actually, that was Lucifer's plan that all of God's children would never sin, and all come back to live w/ God, thus taking away the free agency of man. Because of this, and the fact that Lucifer wanted to ascend above God, he, and 1/3 of the host of Heaven, was cast into Hell. I think this is in Isaiah and the book of Revelation.

The purpose of our existence is to progress, whether it was during the premortal life, earthly life, or during the life to come. This is why God created us. Through us, He is able to progress. Like the scripture said in my last post "For behold, this is my work and my glory—to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man" (Moses 1:39). God loves us so much. We are literally His children. He wants us to come back to Him, but this earth life is a necessary step in our eternal progression.

This kind of stuff makes me sad. If God didn't want us to know His character and attributes, then Christ wouldn't have said, "And this is life eternal, that they might knowthee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent" (John 17:3). People that say that is imposible to explain the nature of God are wrong. Christ wouldn't have said that it is "life eternal" to know God and Himself. This might be a good thread. I'll start it sometime today or tomorrow.

God does not make us go through this, you chose it.

God was perfect? Perhaps. Watch your favorite movie over and over again. Watch it 100 times, then try to go for 500. Does it ever change? Even if it is perfect does it still appeal to you the same?

Whatever does not grow... stays the same, and that is fine for rocks.

god is at the top of all realities, becoming the ultimate being. he cannot evolve. gods purpose is to give divine love (which is not human love, but is very close). the love needs to be radiated back at god from us for us to complete the bridge to heaven and become unified with him, and return to our original state of divinity

(please dont flame)

I think god created us and sent us to earth to give us a chance, as his children, to be able to be just like him. A god. The problem is, very few people im sure never make it.
