I'm not sure about good architecture books for kids but I like Shermer's Teach Your Child Science (sorry, the Amazon.uk didn't have a pic so I used the N. American Amazon) as an introduction to arranging tests. The book should be good for a 5 year old but it's geared more towards helping the child conduct science experiments than something to quietly sit down and read.
Having to actively participate and spend time with a 5 year old is the main drawback to my recommending this book.
It's a christmas present for my friends kid, so I won't be able to get him to pick it out himself. I'll look into the suggestions, thanks.
Kids are specific about what they like at that age. I would suggest talking to the friend. If you do pick a certain book they may not be interested as yet.
I know he wants to be an architect and is very good at drawing, and he has asked me some questions about evolution and magnets and as I said recently learned to read and likes the independence of it, his mum will tell me not to get him anything if I ask. I think a factoidy kind of book is what he would love. Something like horrible histories but about science is what I was hoping to find but so far everything is a couple of years ahead of him.
I was hoping someone might have a brilliant book they had given their own kid, I guess there is still time.
