Google Age Verification

Yup, I'm signed in.
I noticed it once when one of the videos I posted here needed to be watched on YouTube because it required age verification. I subscribe to The Slow Mo Guys. Two guys, well one now due to Covid, that video in very very slow motion. For some odd reason their video of the condom challenge in slow motion required age verification. The condom challenge does not involve any sex organs or anything to do with sex. It merely shows how much those things can stretch without breaking. One fills a condom up with water so that it is a big bigger than a human head. And yes, they will stretch that much. One person holds that over the head of another and lets go. The water in the condom and the momentum cause it to wrap around the persons head in a fraction of a second. Rather amazing.. And it seems to negate the claim by some men that they need an extra large condom.

Violence I have seen too. But swearing? I have watched quite a few frauditor videos and there is an unbelievable amount of swearing in those at times and no notification of adults only that I can remember seeing.

It seems really hit and miss. It wants age verification for some South Park videos and not for others - by the same content creator!

I've just had an email from (allegedly) google saying because my age isn't verified my settings have been tweaked. It also offers me the option of logging into my google account (via a link on the email) to verify my age. To do this, two options are offered, one of which involves providing my credit card details - saying no charge will be made and any admin fee will be refunded.

It all sounds too obviously a scam. I've reported it as spam and deleted it. But it looked totally legit (especially since the link actually does take me to my google sign in page).

I'm not sure which would be the most annoying - getting a scamming email or google genuinely thinking anyone would provide banking details.

Thoughts? Anyone else had this?

On a PC you can check email headers to see who sent the email.

Different email readers have different methods of viewing the header. Find out how its done in your reader.

Once you can see the header you can either A/ analyse it yourself or B/ copy the header and drop it into an online tool such as
Email Header Analyzer, RFC822 Parser - MxToolbox
Note, this is an example not a recommendation

Remember the From : xxxx line can be fudged because it written before being posted. However, as the mail is passed along the route to you more header information is automatically added. The one to watch for is what is written on by the router following the sender information. It will accurately tell you who actually posted the mail.

A bit long winded but worth becoming used to in this world of spam and attemps to get your personal details.

Remember no reputable company will request passwords. And if you do click a link check the address beging https https and the padlock icon os shown as locked. Not foolproof but a good guide

Weird, but then I am not looking for it usually. If I wanted porn there are sites that show what YouTube may never show. I have noticed it here and there and as in the one example that affected a post of mine here it can make no sense as in your example. By the way, there are quite a few condom challenge videos that are not age restricted. I guess slow mo makes them extra sexyo_O

And one can often check them merely by the English that they use. Often these arise in countries where English is a second language and they can have clear examples of poor verb usage spelling, or punctuation. If an email from Google looks as if it was written by someone that did not pass high school writing classes it is probably a scam.

Merci beaucoup. Think I'd have to use my web version of the email to get the header? The apps don't offer that ability by the looks of it?

It works for PC, I don't know of any email reader for Android that allows the user to see headers. There was a hint that Gmail would be adding the feature to their app but that was a couple of years ago. I do believe that in the online version they can be accessed but i don't know how

That link you shared shows how to locate the header. On an app it ain't happening!

I know that. My point was that when I first entered my info I only checked that I was old enough. The did not ask me to go into specifics. I could have been a twelve year old with my own email account for all that the computer knew.
I only get the option of verifying my age, either via credit card or ID.
Are you American? Perhaps the ID thing is due to some kind of EU regulation.
