I think that inside and outside are the same. For any given person the entire universe exists within their mind. Remarkable really, all those people walking around with infinity in their heads.

I've heard some Christians say that heaven is "within a person" or in the "state of mind" before. But I am not sure what Thomas' was referring to the "kingdom is outside of you".
I think it means everything is everything.

The reason the four gospels of the NT are canonical is because they are considered the earliest, most elaborative, and most accurate.Thomas was written before the cannon gospels, I believe.
