Great response to Sister Beck's Talk

I agree with many of the comments previously made. Yes, many LDS women are anything but selfish; yes, many women have children out of fear and out of selfishness; and yes, there are a lot of children who were born unwanted and need care.

In regards to the first point, I was mainly referring to women and motherhood rather than women and all the other great things they do in place of motherhood. Not to say that their good work is insignificant, but that the responsibility of bearing children and taking on the role of a mother is just as significant. About the last two points, there's no way to stamp a quick solution to those problems but they shouldn't prevent women from wanting to take on the responsibility of motherhood. I believe that having any kind of good influence on children is a wonderful thing, but I also believe that motherhood is an experience that's just as important as anything else.

Kadzbiz, this is the LDS DIR, you do not share LDS viewpoints and are debating them here......

Becky has addressed this point correctly.

I'm LDS so I'll say it:....

And nicely said too.....(frubal if I could)

you should know that purposely declining the world's population is against god's plan, and besides who are you to judge that the world has too many people?

I didn't think that anybody actually knew God's plan. It doesn't take a brain surgeon to see that the world cannot sustain the ever increasing population with so many important resources and other living creatures in such decline. I doubt that is God's plan.

...... but I also believe that motherhood is an experience that's just as important as anything else.

Nobody is denying that motherhood is not important. It is very important, but not a necessity for every woman on this planet.

Who are you to judge that it doesn't have enough?

God's commandment was to multiply and replenish the earth. Multiply is one reproducing, replenishing is another. They are not one in the same.

but the commandment says to Multiply AND replenish, so your argument holds no weight
