So we've been pretty off track for the last 30-40k years?

I feel the same way. I celebrate Christmas (actually, the soltice) with a feast and give presents to my neices and nephews. For someone to call me greedy because I give presents to children is just wrong and thoughtless.

Are they calling you greedy, or are they calling the children greedy.

Is it a good idea for us to be teaching children they should expect to be given things.

There's nothing in life that's free, that lesson should be taught early and repeatedly.

Consumerism is the driving force of humanity these days, like it or not.

Consumerism is the driving force of captalism. People are forced into this to make rich people richer, so that these rich people can pay us. This is capitalism at it's purest.

The driving force(s) of humanity are hope and love, without question. Why would anyone choose to stay alive without hope or love?

People have already begun to "wise up" to the various media. Many people now ignore them completely, or just glean the basics of the situation and make up their own mind.

I know there aren't many Tool fans here but:

Throughout human history, as our species has faced the frightening,
terrorizing fact that we do not know who we are, or where we are going in
this ocean of chaos, it has been the authorities, the political, the
religious, the educational authorities who attempted to comfort us by
giving us order, rules, regulations, informing, forming in our minds their
view of reality. To think for yourself you must question authority and
learn how to put yourself in a state of vulnerable, open-mindedness;
chaotic, confused, vulnerability to inform yourself.
