An acquaintance directed me to this forum, and I look forward to discussing religious views with everyone, albeit in a civil, tactful manner.

Not that it matters in the grand scheme of things, but I am working on a double MA in theology and history (eventually a PhD in theology), with a little personal dabbling in astronomy, music and journalism. I am by no means an "authority figure" on the Bible, but I know enough to answer questions intelligently, based on facts (whether they are biblical or not).

You'll find that I am not, in any shape or form, the typical Bible thumping, holier-than-thou, you're wrong/I'm right Christian that we have all come to loathe. Born in 1974, I grew up as a Southern Baptist, deeply planted in the Bible Belt of America, but have since reformed a bit to lean more toward deistic philosophies, albeit I still believe in the divinity of Jesus.

I hope to engage some of you in intelligent discussions about religious views, history, and finding your own paths to knowledge/righteousness!

Welcome! Your religion says "Christian Deism" which I find very intriguing, I look forward to seeing what you have to contribute.

Welcome to the boards. I have a lot of family in the Bible Belt and they are either diehard Roman Catholics or meh Baptists.:D

I'd like to clarify something about myself before the wrong impression is given by way of my posts. I am not arrogant or suffer from a superiority complex in any shape or form. I'm actually one of the most open minded, reasonable people you'll ever meet, and I love to hear a wide variety of view points.

The way that I speak (or write) is meant to be semi-thought provoking, to get people to be more open minded, and to try and think outside of the box. There are 2 sides to every coin, every story has 3 versions (mine, your's and the truth in the middle), and to seek knowledge can only bring you closer to God or whatever deity you chose to worship.

I may plant a thread topic, then sit back and listen to the responses. I may or may not reply back, but I will always answer any questions directed at me. As a deist, I believe in God and free will. As a naturalist, I believe in the laws of nature and evolution. They coincide harmoniously.

I am not here to bash other religions, biblical translations, personal feelings/beliefs, or to ridicule anyone. I just like to challenge people to be independent thinkers and to engage in intelligent discussion. You and I may both learn something new every day!

Everything is not black and white or crystal clear.
