Greetings from a Spinozist

Greetings, I am a former Christian and had lived by that faith for 26yrs. It is just recently that I have come to a new enlightenment. As an anthropologist I have a better understanding of human behavior then I have before. This has led me to the philosophy of Baruch Spinoza. His concept of God is one I can truly accept as it requires no faith only reason and understanding. I look forward to discussing and learning with all of you.

"Be not astonished at new ideas; for it is well known to you that a thing does not therefore cease to be true because it is not accepted by many"--Baruch Spinoza

Welcome to RF,

I might want to pick your brain on Spinoza's ideas if you get the chance!

I summarized Spinoza's Ethics for my prosthelytizing brother (he's worried I'm doomed to hell) so that he can have a better understanding of where I'm at spiritually, I formatted it in computer programing metaphors that he could relate too as Spinoza's writting style using the geometric method ,math logic , and truth values would require multiple emails to explain it to him.

It is my best understanding of what I comprehended from my studies of the Ethics.

If you would like me to forward a copy to you let me know. As for Spinoza's other works I am still studying (currently his "Theological-Political Treastise)

Just for general info, my avatar is a picture of my beautiful hometown beach as the dark stretches of oil reach out to destroy the serenity

I used to have a belief that oil spills were a just collateral damage and the price we pay. Then that damage arrived on my doorstep.

Just a quick heads-up:
You've set it as your profile picture, not your avatar. :)
