Random, I know, but I was curious as to whether horse meat can be considered halal/kosher. Is there any rule in the good books forbidding horse meat?
Yeah, sorry Jay. I really should have known better.Kosher anamals are those with split hooves that chew their cud.
A big pot of black eyed peas and neck bone, some greens, a little challah ...
I want to visit your synagogue!
By the way, if you ever have the chance to go to a Yemenite service ...
If you ever find yourself down here the first Shabbat of the month, let me know. We'll fix ya up a plate or three.
Oh, pot luck dinner night is awesome. So many old southern recipes mixed with traditional European and Middle Eastern ones as well....
And it's all kosher to boot!
I'd love to get out of town and visit other synagogues; even if it's just to a Reform or Orthodox service every now and them. Raliegh has the closest, and it's close to a two hour drive. I keep telling my wife we need to get a babysitter for the kids and make a weekend of it - go up after work on Friday, and go to services for Shabbat. Then hit the town a little Saturday night. A little shopping for her Sunday, and then back home.
Or, even better would be Charlotte. I hear they have a large, vibrant community (not to mention the only kosher grocery store in the state).
And the food along the way would be a nice treat as well....
For Hanafi Muslims (like me), horse meat is allowed but makruh.
if i'm not mistaken makruh means disliked correct? why is it disliked?
