Halloween Costumes

I was Cleopatra!

Halloween is so cool! I'm sad that I'm too old to go begging for candy though. Oh well--I'm already planing on hitting the Halloween stores in the next couple of days for a costume for next year, (they'll all be on sale!).

Went out last night for an early Halloween party at my regular bar. I went as Vice Squad...that is to say I dressed like a hooker and had a badge and handcuffs (went over really well by the way ;) ). Anyway, a couple cops came in near the end of the night to just check in on the bar and I jokingly asked the bartender if he thought I should put my cuffs away and one of the cops turned and looked at me, eyes wide, big grin, and said "NO! By all means keep those out!":biglaugh:

I normally put something together from my own HUGE assortment of clothes. It's a great way to get rid of clothes I don't wear anymore.

This year I dressed for 2 events. The Saturday before Halloween there was an AA Halloween Party. I took a pair of Black Jeans that I no longer fit into, made them into shorts and then shredded the ends. I then took a pair of gray pants and turned them inside out and rolled up the legs. (I LOVE CRAYOLA MARKERS) I used markers of many colors and frantically made random slash marks with each marker. Under the gray pants and the Black jean shorts I had a pair of black stretch leggings. I used 6 different headbands that were left over from the kids and put 3 on each leg. I also used 2 shoestring hairbands (one on each arm.) For my top half I wore a black bodysuit and took a white dress shirt and cut and frayed the sleeves and bottom of it. (I LOVE CRAYOLA MARKERS) I did the slash marks on the shirt in the same way that I did the gray pants. My face was done with 3 lipstick colors that I had. Dark Purple, Pink, and green. My background facial color was a darkish pink, I made stitch marks with the Dark Purple lipstick on my forhead and then made a slash mark across my throat. I used the green lipstick for my mouth. After spraying my hair with tons of hair spray I shook my head to make my hair stand out. A little girl at the party asked me what I was supposed to be and I told her I was a Punk Zombie because I could not decide between being one or the other.

On Halloween, my husband and I took our 5 year old trick-or-treating. She was a Celtic Princess. The tag said Guinevere so I associated the name with King Arthurs time. I dressed in a black sweatshirt and black sweatpants and used the Dark Purple lipstick to make my face like Brandon Lee in The Crow. (Love those movies) My daughter was so happy that mommy dressed up too. A couple of people gave me candy even after I said that I was chaperoning my daughter. They said that since I got dressed up too, I deserved a treat. LOL. Little did they know that Halloween (Samhain) is my favorite holiday because I can dress anyway I want (within reason).
My daughter now has a whole ice cream tub full of candy.

We had a blast and my husband got to share an important event in our daughters life. Any other year he worked at night.

I dressed up as Death. Black hooded robe , cape over that, black gloves , another small hood with a black cloth with small eye holes so I could see. And the best part, a real sythe, five feet tall with a three foot long blade(the blade is very dull and I covered it with duct tape). I found it at the back of our old garden shed years ago and cleaned it up, it's really what inspired the costume in the first place. I went out with my daughter (9)who was dressed as a princess, she was adorable. I got a lot of double takes when ,as my daughter walked away from their doorsteps, people would suddenly notice me at the end of their driveways. I've always been absolutely fascinated with the concept of death as a personality. I've never considered death evil, just doing his job. I had a blast knocking on my buddies door and telling him it was time!:biglaugh:
