Ahh good old Queenie. We recently changed the public holiday celebrating her Birthday here for some reason.

May she outlive that Charles bloke I guess.

As a Canadian, I'm not a strong monarchist, but I do really quite like Elizabeth Regina. She is a class act in a universe of banality. I do hope she passes the title on to William instead of her bozo son, Charles...

Geez she's like what 80 or 90 or something. How much retirement can she even live for!?
She's 90.

Her life has been pretty incredible.

"She is the world's oldest reigning monarch as well as Britain's longest-lived. In 2015, she surpassed the reign of her great-great-grandmother, Queen Victoria, to become the longest-reigning British monarch and the longest-reigning queen regnant in world history."

She served in WWII, as well, so she's a veteran. Have some respect.

I respect her WWII service.

As for her being a long-serving monarch, though, it isn't like this signifies much of anything.

There are other world leaders who have held their positions for decades because they've won election after election; in their cases, their long service means something: continued popular support.

In the Queen's case, though, the length of time she's been on the throne only signifies one thing: her ability to stay alive.

Don't get me wrong: I'm happy she's alive. I certainly wouldn't wish death on her. I'm happy she's lived long enough to know her great-grandkids... just as I would be for anyone. I hope she lives to know her great-great-grandkids... just as I would for anyone.

... but her ability to not die says nothing about her quality as a leader.

What you like and what you hope for is irrelevant. You get no say whatsoever in who gets to be your head of state; that's the defining characteristic of a monarchy.

Hence my usage of the word "hope"`.

But thanks for the "head`s up"....like I didn`t already know that.

*sigh*

But a "Thank You" shout-out to Captain Fricken Obvious.

Mate I'm Aussie. We respect the Queenie as much as we respect the Government, which isn't a lot.

She served in WWII and I respect that. But I suspect it was more about boosting morale than combat, nonetheless she got her hands dirty so she cool.
And her reign is mostly for show, as I understand it the Monarchy aren't exactly involved in politics nor are they allowed to be unless in specific circumstances. Now Victoria on the other hand, that lady was bad as f. Woman survived several attempts on her life.

I mean I like her, she seems kind of awesome. But it's not like I have to obey her or anything. She ain't my Queen.
