Its certainly not a problem in developed countries like U.S.But in country like India,where 25% lives below poverty,diwali celebrations cannot be justified.
41% of Indian children are under weight. This is a fact. Diwali fire crackers is a very small part of the problem. Tomorrow Diwali could cease to exist and It would have very little affect on the life of the poor. The biggest problem is not Hinduism or Islam in India causing poverty. It is the Global economic system that allows the rich countries to exploit the the poor ones.
Just look at the way that poor countries are forced to sell the excess food stores to multi nationals who profit of the foods then sell it back to the poor. Thus making food much more expensive for villagers who have very little to begin with. Religions has nothing to do with the worst types of exploitation of the poor.
