The Moon calendar is hard to keep up with.

But out of curiousity, I checked Melbourne ... its 19 hours ahead of you, 18 ahead of me.

As for the calendar, our local temple publishes its own every year. At least New Years is consistently April 14. Some years they don't print enough, so I go on New Year's. Then again some years they're not printed on time either.

No silly man. Sarcasm. Most of us won't fast at all. I doubt that I'll stay up all night either this year. I'm getting too old for that kind of thing.

Ah! Well yeah its not like for being perfect follower on it, but do would like to at least do the fasting on eating (not on water). So this saturday night then you evil warmonger? :D

Every single year people are confused if it is the day after or the day before.
This year both my ashram and temple has it on the same day, usually the temple is one day behind.
But this year we celebrate Saturday until Sunday night and this year I'm going to the ashram for it! YAY!!! :)

I am staying up! Even if it means going to a different temple, I will be up for the entire thing! And dead on my feet come Monday.

Sometimes I get mine from a local Dentist who prints it up. Other times I just wait for the temple to come out with dates. A few times I had to do a little research when planing a few months ahead getting time off from work.

@ Vinayaka

It is funny how at times, what day Maha Shivaratri is on, it feels so much more important then my personal Hindu Philosophy. Seems like a bigger part of Hinduism most of the time. I would never said that 10 years ago. My beliefs just seemed so important. Now living day to day life is. Hindu holidays are touch stones in time. Helping me to keep my life in a beautiful yearly cycle.

Haha, you willl even stay up all monday day till 6 00? Will you drink water? :D

I just said some very unladylike words. I am not staying up until 6 pm on Monday! But I will stay up until after 6 am on Monday! I am hoping I won't be too bored. Gonna bring music with me - bhajans and kirtans. Anyone have any recommendations? Gonna bring some books too... Hmm...

I'm more or less the opposite. I'm detached from holidays too. Although I usually end up going, I can easily skip it. One aspect I don't like is that it interferes with my regular sadhana. But as far as having a crowd goes, that makes it a ton easier. You can take a break, have coffee in the hall or basement, and chat it up with a friend.

Just some selective editing. Enjoy Sivaratri. I wish more people stayed up here. Then I would too,

We have an all night concert at the Ashram after the temple ceremony, but I usually go to bed anyway. I tell myself I'm going to stay up but around 2 or so I'll give up.
What is amazing at the ashram is that the temple is open all night, it's quiet and empty and you can sit in there and meditate for as long as you want.

Do you think that you'll end up going this year?
