My post here explains some of the beliefs about Swaminarayan Hinduism, though I probably forgot some stuff :p http://www.religiousforums.com/foru...t-exactly-swaminarayan-faith.html#post3299164

As far as the Vishnu and Shiva being one in Swaminarayan Hinduism, it doesn't really seem to happen in practice. There's still a tendency for many people to believe Swaminarayan, Krishna, etc. as superior, while Shiva is a deva. It's not just the laymen, but many of the sadhus also say this. I'll have to look into this further though.

Thanks, I'll look through that thread.

Oh it's in Irving, no wonder i haven't heard of it.

The BAPS Swaminarayan is just one branch of the Swaminarayan sect, but they are far and away the best organized Indian immigrant Hindu group in the United States, or maybe anywhere outside India. They can put up a new temple in a matter of months, because they fundraise as a larger group, and volunteers will take a month's holiday just to go build another temple. Large and dedicated membership, and quite admirable. This is the Toronto Temple

I've never been to a temple before but if I have the time I'd like to visit that one in Irving.

Dallas has several temples, and by visiting any one, you don't get much of an idea of the diversity within Hinduism. There is one in Plano I've heard good stuff about, and another out in Temple I've heard about too.

Unfortunately Plano's too far from me. The Irving one is the closest to me that I've found.
