Part of the context has to include all his other rhetoric and actions. He can walk back comments or claims he meant this or that was sarcastic, but eventually one has to conclude he either a horrible public speaker whose words can't be trusted or he has fascist ideals. Add into that:

-What other people who have worked with him have said,
-Past actions such as his election denialism and attempts to change the results,
-His relationships and praise of other leaders with fascist tendancies,

and it becomes easy to believe the man is a fascist.

That was not a left wing source. Reuters is rated very close to dead center politically. Well respected news sources cannot afford to lie. They cannot afford to do poor research. Their income depends upon them being honest and inaccurate. Fringe sources on both sides make their money by appealing to the prejudices of their readers. This is why one should check one's sources on Media Bias or other such sites.
