As far as I can tell
  • Gay's testimony was abysmal,
  • she has since apologized fully.
  • and I've seen no donor insist that the apology was insincere.
Maybe they should donate additional moneys to fund programs aimed at constructive dialogue.
She's weak. Tried to walk the line of sympathy & inoffensiveness,
but didn't take a strong reasoned stance for free speech, nor did
she address specious attacks by politicians & Israel's painting of
every criticism of it, & advocacy for Palestinian rights, as anti-semitism.

IMO she should have been fired, because I can guarantee you if the question was about calling for the lynching of black people, she would have said nothing about context.

I see mostly people demanding a question that requires nuance in tue answer by boiled down to yes or no amd getting mad because she, and others wouldn't do that.
The question of should it be banned to say "death to Jews" (or whatever it was that was asked if it would be allowed or not), replying it depends on the context should be the only appropriate abd suitable response for a university.

The questioning was loaded with problems.
Congress critters were conflating advocacy
for Palestinians with destroying Israel.

Have you stopped beating your wife?
If you cannot say a clear "Yes!", you
should be fired & prosecuted.

So now because israel/gaza conflict the women is now a target of the hate groups.

She did not make the affirmations that the haters expected, so now she is a target of other haters.

I had no idea of a racial theme being a part of the argument. I just noted that the pres of harvard was lambasted for the israel/gaza protest.

Then i read this thread and WOW!

I do not like harvard because of alan dumshwitch-dershowitz.

Then why did'nt she call it a loaded question? All she had to say was that nobody was calling for genocide of the Jews; and it would have been all over..... unless somebody actually was.

You'd have to ask her that.
I say that it was weak of her to not challenge
the bullcrap that Congressmen think they
can heap on people hauled in front of them.

No, she should've not only addressed that,
but also berated the islamophobic Israeli
tools running that kangaroo court.
But I assume one doesn't get to run a major
university unless one is highly circumspect,
& always seeking to defuse conflict.

She's a woman, she's black, and she's a Harvard professor. The people "giving her hate" were going to give her hate before she ever opened her mouth, and regardless of anything she said or otherwise could have said. Let's not pretend this whole thing was anything other then an insulting dog-and-pony show by politicians that couldn't care less about dead Palestinians or antisemitism. All they care about is posing as the Insane Republican Clown Posse for their idiot base.

I am not so hateful. The harvard group is a tough crowd. What is clear is that the politicians picking on a school president is rude in itself.

The reason she could not challenge or berate them is because she was guilty of what they were accusing her of, that’s why she should have been fired

Oh stop it! This is not about sexism, this is not about racism, this is about a president that has allowed hatred to fester under her watch and she is being forced to explain why. Had a while man allowed this type of bigotry under his watch you wouldn’t have a problem with him being taken to task
