Look up the Roman Warm period.
The peat bogs of the upper midwest in the USA are
the remnants of ice age lakes.
They preserve a record of pollen and other climate indicators
The pollen shows, since the glacial retreat, that boreal forest
was found far far south of where it is now, and, in turn
the mixed hardwood forest of say, Tennessee, was up
far into Canada.
I dont think anyone knows what initiated the ice age.
what caused the many big and small advances and retreats,
or why climate has been so unstable since the last
glacial retreat.
I kinda doubt algore would be very good on that topic.
