My personal spiritual experiences have always been slightly more abstract than hearing a voice, rather as I have dwelt upon a topic, had a burning question or as I have simply reflected on my life a thought will seize me very strongly and prompt an emotional response, generally of peace.

So, for example, I had to take a year out of medical school for personal reasons. I took this as an opportunity to reflect on what I actually wanted to do, and I asked for guidance from God. The alternative to returning to med school I gave most consideration to was to pursue a career in Law. As I reflected on previous experiences I had, including my Law A-Level, it restored to me a certain passion I had not felt for a long time, which was particularly out of place given that during this time I was understandably depressed and frustrated. I believe that God was telling me Law is the right choice, not by an actual voice but by revealing my passion for a legal career.

Twilight Hue

Twilight, not bright nor dark, good nor bad.
I would really like someone to answer my question.

Why would hearing a positive voice not be a sign of illness but a negative voice would be?
Actually IMO, a positive voice could be indicative of a mental illness, but is not readily noticed as such due to it's harmlessness in most cases. -NM-

Is it just not possible for a religious believer to think a negative voice in their head could be from God?
In, my Christian years I would of stated a resounding NO because God is not evil and the Holy Spirit dwells in your heart. But of course there are some instances of Believers doing great harm following "voices from God" from which it then becomes attributed to Satan and not God. -NM-

You pretty much know a demon from an angel, in my experience. Pretty cut and dry. Demons cause negativity, they can be subtle critters, but generally they like to stir up you-know-what. Angels are more of a comfy, nice and peaceful feeling.

Thats their nature. Its impossible to have an angel making you feel horrible, or a demon make you feel good. Pretty simple, actually. :angel2:

It's far simpler than this even.

Angels have halos. Demons have horns.

lol... But seriously. They don't. They look the same as each other. You must judge them by their message, their "fruits" if you will.

To put this mildly, I think it should be understandable that people should be highly skeptical of such claims, especially with such a wide variety of religions (and variations even in one religion or sect) proclaiming mutually exclusive dogmas, beliefs, and doctrines.

I would say that your brain created it to ease your distress and used religious terminology as your would respond most positivley to that. Or on the other hand it was a devil from hell deceiving you into to thinking you are as magnificent as God is.

I'm glad for you that your distress has eased but for everlasting life you need to heed the word of God in the bible and truly know what you are and what God is and how you can be reconciled to him for all eternity.

Thats pretty simple to explain, actually. Whenever angels appear, to prophets even, and give a message that they are supposed to give to their people, it usually appllies only to those people and that time. What gets screwed up is when later people take those messages and try to legalize them, and make them apply to all kinds of different people and different times.

Plus they get edited and translated into different languages! How confusing!

No, but then again Abraham did not kill Isaac did he. God told him to stop at the last second.

That's one thing that's always puzzled me...Did God have a huge mood swing or was he just messing around when he told Abraham to kill Isaac. Regardless of whether or not he died, God still told him initially to do it, and i've never understood it. Any thoughts?

Hello everyone! I'm here to share an experience with you that I will never forget, which happened not to long ago.

One night I was feeling bad because I felt unworthy to live and I wondered why everyone didn't accept me for being different. Then, suddenly, I heard a voice in my mind that told me, "Sorrow is not the way, being different is not a bad but a good thing. I made you and everyone of my people in my image, so you are all magnificent just as I am. You all are not better than each other, but only different from each other in your own special way. Heed my word, and rightousness will be yours."

The part in quotation marks is from the voice. Like I said I heard it in my mind.

I believe it was God, or The Source, that was talking to me. What does anyone else think? I would enjoy comments.

...No. That hasn't happened to me. But of course you are correct that there is nothing wrong with being different, and being sad doesn't solve anything. :D
