Have we really changed that much?

The 1960's were a time of war protests and sexual liberties. Hero's of the day where Dr. Martin Luther King, Jack Kennedy and Bobby Kennedy. They were champions for change back then.

As of late there are war protests and talk of same sex marriages. The modern day candidates are Barrack Obama and Hillary Clinton. Obama looked and sounded very much like Jack Kennedy did after the Iowa caucus victory. Hillary has much support as well around the country mostly because they both stand basically for the same ideals that Dr. King and the Kennedy brothers did.

If elected, could they suffer the same fate even today?

No, the secret service is much more alert toward possible assassinations.

Hmmmmm, really? So Ronald Regan had poor security? What makes security so much better now? Just because you think everything old was second class and every thing modern is so much better now? What do you base your opinion of today's security on?

Now that J. Edgar Hoover is no longer around, I think these folks are probably safe. I also hope they are the "new Kennedys". The 60s were a time of great optimism and freedom, and idealism. They were troubled times mostly because the status quo didn't want anything to change. They were in power and they wanted to stay that way. Maybe this time they won't be able to kill the agents of change like they did before. And maybe we really will see some positive changes.

It's a nice thought.

Yes, J. Edgar Hoover is dead and gone but if my memory serves me correct, Daddy Bush was the director of the CIA back then. With Obama and Hillary the new players on the left and the likes of Rumsfeld and Cheney on the right, have we really changed all that much?

What do you think about security today? Is it better? Why? If there was another inside job like the Kennedy assassination, would a questionable better security really matter?

I don't believe the Kennedy assassination was an inside job. I believe that Oswald was acting on his own. None of those 60s assassinations were orchestrated by Hoover. But I suspect several of them were 'allowed to happen' by Hoover. Meaning that he could have taken measures to stop them from happening, and did not.

Bush senior wasn't much better, but he's no longer in power. And this time around, the guys who are in power don't have a lot of political support. Chaney would be the most likely loose cannon. I suspect he and his crew of zionist neo-cons are capable of anything. But I don't think he's foolish enough to try something that drastic. Besides, he and his pals have already stolen hundreds of billions of dollars and have gotten away with it. Unless he's patently insane, what more could he want to gain from playing the strings of a puppet president?

I dunno Purex, It is not all about money. Poor man wants to be rich. Rich man wants to be king. You can only have so much money to the point where more money is pointless. People who require this mass amount of fortune in the first place are not going to be satisfied with just money, the next step is power. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Many people think this is just about the United States. Cheney's ambition is world wide. I would say without a doubt, he is the most powerful man in the world.

As far as Daddy Bush is concerned, he is old and retired, but still has many friends in high places and can if he wants to influence more than you think.

I'm sure there will at least be plotting over it. The first woman or first mixed race/black president is quite a major step, and honestly I do not think the nation as a whole is ready for it. There are still so many racist and sexist, that it will make there presidency very difficult even if there is no assassination attempts.
Like or hate Clinton and Obama, you still have to give them credit for stepping up like they have.

I personally know of someone who said that if obama gets elected he's going to blow the "n*****'s" head out.. kinda scary stuff. And he seemed serious.

I admire the both of them. I would rather see Dr Rice elected and then we could accomplish the first black and first woman with one Presidency.

I e-mailed Obama and he answered me personally three months later. The Democratic party has nothing to offer me that I don't already have. They would make it harder for me to accomplish things and restrict my freedoms.

I still could celebrate the fact that Obama was elected even though it would present hardships for me personally. If Hillary was elected, I would rejoice with my wife and daughter that a woman was President.

I am an American, and I would respect the office even though I disagreed with the President. I don't think everyone would agree with me however and the security level would be high for either candidates.

We were ready for a former cokehead C student with DUIs and AWOLs and malapropisms to be president, but not an Ivy-league educated woman with 8 years experience in the White House or an erudite megastate Senator with a father from Kenya.

Condi can't have her yellowcake and eat it too. No one is going to elect anyone, male or female, who cherry-picked the intel to get us into the Iraq War.

That would be a plus for some voters! Some women would vote for any woman period. Same for some black voters.

It is rather odd how being a minority can change people's opinion isn't it?

While I do agree some women would vote for Rice because she is a woman, and some blacks because she is black, but there would be so many people that wouldn't vote for her it would be a near land-slide for the other candidate.
