Hello Friends

Kid Dynamite

Iron Mike
I'll get right to the point. I was saved over 30 years ago but I have not read the bible in it's entirety. I do not belong to any particular church, but I'm a firm believer in God The Father, Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit. I've always felt a little guilty and angry with myself for being too lazy to pick up the bible that God gave to us. I think about God every day and always have tons of questions. My belief is that if I actually read the bible in it's entirety, I might have far less questions to bother God with so I've decided to put my faith into action, read the bible and learn as much as I can.

I've read tips on studying the bible and have a list of what each book's message is about as sort of a beginner's learning tools type thing. It was suggested that I keep a journal of my thoughts on the bible and God as a way to help gain a deeper understanding of God and His word. You all will find that I have many questions but I ask that you please be patient with me as that's how I learn. I've had several people tell me that I should only concern myself with the New Testament, but if I did that then it would mean that I'm only reading part of the bible. If God only wanted us to read the NT he wouldn't have included the OT, so to me it means I should be reading the entire book.

I guess some could say that I joined here for selfish reasons, and I can understand that, but I'm here to learn. I believe this quote below means to seek out others to enhance my learning:

“As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” — Proverbs 27:17

I look forward to meeting you all.

It was on fire when I laid down on it.
Welcome to RF! Just remember as you are reading the bible, that it was written by many, many people over the span of thousands of years. I don't personally feel like it's meant to be a history book or a science book, but that it's meant to convey spiritual truths.

"Be strong", I whispered to my coffee.

Also consider that it was reading the bible that started my path into atheism

The above quotes show what in my opinion is one of the best features of RF, a wide range of different points of view.

I hope your time here is both enjoyable and educational.
