Hello from Alberta

Speed doesn't kill, it's hitting the wall
Hi my name is Terry Johns, I am an ex-pat raised in the UK but now living in Alberta, Canada. I work in Psychology as a Couples Coach and as a side business I'm a High Performance Driving Instructor. I've been with my partner Chris for 43 years, two adult children and two grandsons.

I am an ex fundamentalist christian which I walked away from several years ago. I have been very inspired by the teachings of Bishop John Shelby Spong.

The truth is, the body is 65 the rest is 40. Looking forward to some good conversations

Terry

Welcome and interesting profession and side business, I'm sure driving high performances vehicles puts a lot of things in perspective.

Thanks! What prompted your break with fundamentalism?

And what's the number one cause of divorces?

Wow, those are two huge questions.
1. Because I believe God has given me a mind and I was tired of having other people tell me what I should believe.
2. Unmet needs and because monogamy doesn't work for the majority of the worlds people.

Sounds like a pretty good reason to leave fundamentalism.

Does anything work better than monogamy?

I think to answer your question I first need to make what I believe to be a few foundation truths.
1. we are all complete in ourselves
2. we all need more than one person in our lives

Hollywood has sold us the lie that we should all be looking for our other half,/ soul mate. If this is true which I dont believe it is then by definition we are incomplete people. Most relationships fail due to unmet needs. Monogamy states that you find one person and they will meet all your needs, sounds good in theory, but doesn't work for the majority of the worlds people. To have a paradigm shift in world view one must look outside the box.

We are in a Polyamorous relationship, my long term partner of 43 years and our shared Japanese girlfriend. Been living together as a threesome for 9 years and its wonderful. No fights, no control, no jealousy.

What? Me worry?
Welcome. I was intrigued by your intro but I realize I misread your credentials. I thought you said that you were a High Performance "Diving" Instructor. Imagine my embarrassment...

Welcome... I found Spong interesting. His complaint is totally valid, he says zero past that, even if he thinks he is. Which in reality is precisely why his complaint is totally valid. I could explain that but it could get really wordy and I try and not be. Maybe that's spong, complaining about wordiness in really wordy ways.

So in teaching performance driving do you only sit in a classroom, show diagrams, pictures, theories, counter theories, various do this, do that, argue as to which is the correct way to do performance driving and read mountains of books on performance driving to improve your performance driving which at the end, you hand out certificates of expert to the students while at the same time none of them have ever sat in a car?Probably not. Spong complains about that which is totally valid.

Btw that All was an awesomely long and really bad run on sentence, in a fun way.

My work as an instructor falls into two categories.
1. Development work and testing for new models being launched by several manufacturers.
2. Driving schools at tracks for main dealers who wish to offer their customers some experience on a road course.
