At least, that is the best way to think of to describe myself. I've got a lot of ingredients and the pot is never empty!
In no particular order:
- Jewish: I was raised reformed Jewish, youngest of three. I'm a Cohen! Mom asked me one day if I wanted to go to Hebrew school and eventually be bat mitzvahed, I said no, and that was that. For about six months, age 14-15, I was Orthodox and Kosher as I actively participated in NCSY, but that ended when we moved from the Bronx to Long Island and didn't have the same availability of resources. Up until a couple of years ago, I worked for 12 years at an Orthodox/Hasidic company and picked up a lot there, too.
- Zen Buddhism: I studied this in my early teens, and meditated regularly. One night I reached Satori while watching the Monkees' HEAD...but forgot to write it down, and forgot it in the morning. Such is the balance of life...and in some Internet circles, I am known as "Zen Goddess," which is really just an endearment because Buddhism is an atheistic religion. I strongly believe that you can learn and be enlightened by any source, often unlikely ones.
- Catholicism: My two best friends were raised Catholic, and I am blessed in that I was warmly welcomed by them and their families. The more I learned about Jesus Christ, aka Yeshua, a nice Jewish boy who was a rabbi and carpenter, the more I loved him. Ever hear of Jews for Jesus, Messianic Jews? The first followers of Christ were not Christian, but Jewish. All the man wanted was for us to love one another. And hey, the calendar changed its date and is now solar (sun/son)! So that's something, right?
- Wiccan/Pagan: I started studying Gardnerian Wicca, specifically Edwardian (for Edmund Buczynski) in autumn 2002. A year and a half later, approximately, I was initiated into First Degree. The beauty of it is that I don't have to renounce anything, and the Golden Rule is the same across the board: "Do as ye will, an harm none." Kinda like "Do unto others..."? It also gave me a revelation that Jewish magic is in the form of transsubstantiation (we eat this to mean that - something the very Jewish Jesus Christ did at the Last Supper, a Passover seder, with the matzoh and wine). This has been met with little to no interest, sadly. I have very few revelations.
That's me, pretty much in a nutshell! Looking forward to meeting and talking to you all!
