Help please

I have never really been a person of any faith, born into orthodoxy but family hardly practices at all (went to church a few times). I am currently looking towards an organized religion to better myself seeing as life seems to put me down all the time, I want to find some answers.

I am looking towards Christianity(most likely protestant, but not 100% on this) or Buddhism.

What I wanted to know about Christianity is what version of the bible should I read? I currently have the NLT version, but is there more recommended versions? also what are the major differences between the different branches of Christianity? they all seem fairly similar from what I read. **The different branches question I want answered most if anyone can**

I am planning to talk with a pastor within the next few days to ask him some of these questions, but I wanted to get a head-start until then.

any and all help is appreciated.

***And yes this post looks very similar to the one in Buddhism cause I just copy/pasted it over and switched some words, I can be lazy too :D

just wanted to say hi and I hope you find all the answers you are looking for :) I'm prob not the best at all of them, but I had some of the same questions you are asking before I figured myself out. I was raised a Christian, but I never truly felt "attached" to a certain branch of it. For myself, there was always something I disagreed with in each one. As I've said before I decided my faith and my religion was with God himself and not a church organization. I declare myself a Christian Buddhist which some prob don't agree with, but I do and it's what I feel.

What makes you feel comfortable? What do you believe?

Biblios This site has many translations.

I prefer the KJV (King James) for church and the NIV (New International Version) for study.

The NIV more accurately parallels the structures of the Greek and allows for easier comparison to the Greek and looking for the meaning that others may see.

Most Bible translations are fine in my eyes, only thing better would be to learn Hebrew and Greek, but if you do that you are better than I (six months ive studied Hebrew and I am finding it hard)
For you though I think a Bible with a commentary would be a good Idea, there is also a website which you probably know of but if you do not, its called Bible Gateway, it has lots of versions on there, scan them and see which one has the right form of English for you.
Many people claim "King James only" but to my tastes I prefer reading modern English, you might be fine with it though.

Why do you keep posting the same thread in three different sections now?

It seems you really need help? Maybe you should talk to someone in person...

Personally, I love the New American Bible. Of course, I'm Catholic so that happens to be the version we read in church. I am born and raised Catholic, and I quite enjoy my religion. I was going to say something else but I forgot. Forgive me, as I do do this quite often.
