What's "the right decision" to you?

To me, all possible evils are possible choices. All possible goods are possible choices. To give in to the whispers and attacks of devils, and let them convince you to be gay or that you are gay, is evil.

To say "it would be evil if it was a free choice, but it's not a choice", doesn't make sense to me. All evils are potential states, we can choose. I don't see why same sex attraction is different then that.

It's an evil state to give into just like envy. No one tells themselves, "I want to be envious of so and so", but it's a choice to give into to envy and be jealous towards people.

To me the right decision, is to trust, that we humans are created for a higher dignified state with God and look for mental clarity and guidance regarding all our actions.

We may think it's cool to be gay and different as kids, but, we should be informed it's evil by grown ups so that remain upon the straight path.

Prevention is easier then cure in this regard.

I see quite a few threads addressing homosexuality and transgender topics. Many pointing to the sin of it all.

But I don't see many addressing sexual immorality in general, just targeting specific groups. Why is this? Is it just that we choose people's sins as they become pop topics?

It seems that for a great deal of the world's religious that "Thou shall not commit adultery" has been lost in the shuffle, even among today's moral crusaders. Have they given up?

This thread is thusly about a specific naughty group.... heterosexual sinners and why no one cares that they get a free pass. Heterosexuals being the largest group also tend to exhibit the greatest amount of inequity.
Why is any sort of consensual sex a sin?

If you're constantly having to convince yourself that you are straight, I have news for you.

I choose to find gayness to be disgusting. If I choose otherwise, I may struggle with it. But as of now, it's disgusting because I see it for what it is. This makes it easy to stay away from.

As you yourself note, there's not a lot of focus on heterosexual sins like adultery and fornication. Which is the point. They're accepted as sins such that the sinners who do them try to keep them in the closet or to themselves.

On the other hand, homosexuals, and non-homosexuals alike, these days, like to advertise homosexuality not as a sin, but as the sexual preference of the enlightened people of the world; they're literally advertising, sacralizing, and evangelizing for homosexuality. It's glorified on TV and throughout the memesphere. It's been transformed from a sin, to a litmus test for bigotry: if you consider it a sin you're a bigot. If your engage in it, promote it, or consider it sacred, you're enlightened.

Viker. I know a guy in his early fifties who goes for a protest against corruption. Known him pretty much all my life. This guy earned quite a decent amount of money, and is living a comfortable life. Most of this money came from bribes he took from suppliers to the private company he works for.

So he was always corrupt. But he is protesting against corruption.

Do you know why? Because its the fad of the time and land. Go to the protest, drink up well, take a picture or two, post it on Facebook.

So the answer to your OP is found in your own OP. If its the fad, people participate. If it makes you look good, you play ball.

Of course, this is not everyone, and you have a point.

Adultery only destroys marriages when it is a violation of the agreement in the marriage. That is a concern in the list @blü 2 gave.

Actually not always. I knew a couple who had an "open marriage". They did not realize that while intellectually it was fine, emotionally it was not and the marriage was destroyed because of adultery.

I think it's pretty disgusting the way Christians and other Abrahamic theists marginalize homosexuals and transgenders. As far as I'm concerned, they're all hypocrites who are guilty of a multitude of sins themselves, including sexual sins. Jesus said whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart (Matthew 5:27-28). No one can tell me that these same devout theists are not guilty of lust, fornication, and even adultery. Many Christians divorce and remarry, and 68% of Christian men (including pastors) are addicted to pornography. IMO, the Christians and other Abrahamic theists who judge LGBTQ people need to worry about removing the plank in their own eye before they worry about the speck of dust in someone else's eye.

Porn Addiction Statistics
The statistics for Christian men between 18 and 30 years old are particularly striking:
  • 77 percent look at pornography at least monthly.
  • 36 percent view pornography on a daily basis
  • 32 percent admit being addicted to pornography (and another 12 percent think they may be).
The statistics for middle-aged Christian men (ages 31 to 49) are no less disturbing:
  • 77 percent looked at pornography while at work in the past three months.
  • 64 percent view pornography at least monthly.
  • 18 percent admit being addicted to pornography (and another 8 percent think they may be).
Even married Christian men are falling prey to pornography and extramarital sexual affairs at alarming rates:
  • 55 percent look at pornography at least monthly.
  • 35 percent had an extramarital affair.

Homosexuality isn't the only abomination condemned in the Bible. In fact, many abominations are mentioned in the Bible. Lying is another abomination. Stealing, coveting, fornication, and adultery are also condemned in the Bible, and there are seven deadly sins (lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy, and pride) mentioned in the Bible. But we don't see or hear any weeping and gnashing of teeth from Christians and other Abrahamic theists over other sins condemned in the Bible. Their preferred morally indignant rants are directed at LGBTQ people. How many of these Christians and other Abrahamic theists are guilty of lying, cheating, lust or taking something that doesn't belong to them (stealing), or they hate another person? The Bible says whoever hates another person is a murderer at heart (1 John 3:15), and the Bible says whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar (1 John 4:20).

Sex abuse scandals plague the Southern Baptist Church and the Catholic Church, and a majority of these devout Christians and other theists still politically support a gravely immoral man who bragged about how he could get away with forcibly kissing women and sexually groping them in-between their legs because he's a celebrity. He's also twice divorced, thrice married and has had multiple affairs, including with a porn star and a Playboy Bunny. In other words, none of these devout theists have a moral leg to stand on when they piously judge LGBTQ people. As the old adage says, "Those who live in glass houses should not throw stones."

Yes, that does happen.

But I would say that the marriage wasn't destroyed by adultery, but from insecurity and lack of communication. And non-monogamy isn't the only way those can destroy a marriage

I think that's it.
It's a hot topic so it tends to be on people's minds a lot more.
Also, homosexuality and transgenderism are so normalized and accepted now in popular culture that those who speak against it tend to get demonized.
So I think a lot of it stems from a reactionary response.

And people also get demonized for being racist or misogynist.

That is a moral *improvement*.

That's how I replied at first, but I deleted my reply because I reread the comment and I don't think that's what Gargovic is getting at here.

I think he's just pointing out that they're focusing on what are, to them, hot-button topics.

They might get a free pass from society but do they get it from God? I mean, for those who call themselves Christians, the Bible is very clear on what is and isn't acceptable. So if their faith is real, they must know what kinds of behaviors are seen as a sin by God.

The distinction is that you don’t find Christian heterosexuals denying that their sins are sins.

It's easier to focus on a sin you're not likely to commit.

Christians are no more moral than anyone else, but the hetero ones are just glad they're not gay.
