Hi All, I am Serenity7855 and a Christian

Wow! Am I ever embarrassed! Oh well... that'll teach me to make assumptions (or maybe not ;)). If you were sealed in the London Temple 36 years ago, you must be an old guy like me :) (except that I'm not a guy). At any rate, you seem like a genuinely nice person and I hope you'll stick around. We can use all the nice people here we can get.

So are you American or British? I see you live in Wales, but you've obviously spent a lot of time in Utah, too. And what about your wife? Did you meet in the U.S. or the U.K.?

No, Katzpur, you were correct. My eternal companion would have been enthralled to have taken me with her and I would have sooner gone then to be at home worried about her. No one can look after her as I do. I am, what they call over there, a Jack Mormon. Inactive. Not because the church had problems with me but because I had the problems with it. All my fault. I have not been to the temple with her for many years now.

No, we are both British. We have friends who live in Sandy and Logan so we used to spend some of our Easter Breaks with them and go to conference as well. We did a couple of road trips as well from Miami to Salt Lake and from Chicago to Salt Lake, along the Mormon Trail.

Me and my wife met when we were both 18 years old in a cider making factory in the UK. Within 5 months we were married and have spent almost everyday together since. That was nearly 40 years ago now. Very shortly afterwards we joined the church. My wife has always been very active. You will have to excuse my nostalgia. She is in the temple now doing her mothers work and I am missing her.

Are you a convert or do you have pioneer heritage. I love the history of the church despite it being part of my exit from it.

Loving being here. Even more so now that I know that there are others LDS here.

Not your average Mormon

I think it's absolutely wonderful that you two did not allow your differences of belief to drive a wedge in between you. Congratulations to you both on your commitment to one another. :)

I have a pioneer heritage on both sides of my family. Edward Bunker, my great-grandfather on my mother's side, was the leader of one of the handcart companies (the last company to safely arrive here in Salt Lake City prior to the Willey-Martin company tragedies). All of the members of his company were from Wales. I understand that communication between him and the people he was leading was a real challenge. They made it here with the fewest fatalities (I think) of any of the handcart companies. My mother's family was originally from Germany, Belgium, Denmark and France, but were among the first settlers in America, having arrived here shortly after the Mayflower. My father's parents were both from Bradford, England. They converted to the Church there and then came to the U.S. to join the rest of the members of the Church in Salt Lake City. They were fairly early converts, but I'm pretty sure they came after the completion of the transcontinental railroad, so they never came over the Mormon Trail.

Loving being here. Even more so now that I know that there are others LDS here.
Well, it's wonderful to have you!

I have some questions for you. Do you believe there is only one God? Do you believe that Jesus Christ is that God? Do you believe God is the one who decides where we go when we die? Do you believe he decides on the basis of how well we behave? In other words, do you believe our good behavior can help us to get to into heaven when we die?

1. Do you believe there is only one God?

Yes

2. Do you believe that Jesus Christ is that God?

No

3. Do you believe God is the one who decides where we go when we die?

I don't know. I think that we have something to do with it as a result of our mortal probation

4. Do you believe he decides on the basis of how well we behave?

Not on how well we behave but on our action that relate to the intent of the heart. I don't think an apple for the teacher will secure a place in the Celestial Kingdom on its own

5. In other words, do you believe our good behavior can help us to get to into heaven when we die?

I believe that our adherence to the principles and precepts of the scriptures are paramount in determining exactly where we will reside in the Kingdom of our God

If I understand you correctly, you believe that God decides where we go when we die on the basis of our motives and actions together. Is that correct?
