Welcome.

The more I learn about early Christianity the more I appreciate Judaism, the inherent wisdom in it. I wish you luck in your journey. There are many thoughtful people here though, as you will see, much of the activity here has nothing to do with religion.

Greetings fellow Aussie...and Welcome! Judaism is not common outside of the big smoke....what drew you?

Thanks for the welcome!

I figured the forum would be a good place to learn the practical aspects of the conversion process, especially given that I reside in regional Australia so will definitely need to work out a fair few things to make this journey proceed consistently...

Many things drew me to Judaism, but I suppose the biggest is the academic nature of it that emphasis constant study and learning, it's been a real gift to study rabbinical literature thus far.

Welcome to the forum.

Would I be correct in assuming that to date you have simply been doing independent self-study?

Are you considering conversion under Orthodox or non-Orthodox auspices?

Hi Rabbi O

Yes that's right, I've been in touch with a reform rabbi over the years by distance, over the last few months have been in contact with the closest orthodox community and the rabbi there has been helpful (and importantly, honest) about what needs to be done.

Edit

Currently I'm undergoing the process from an Orthodox approach, which has been quite informative. However, I have made an appointment with a Conservative synagogue as well. Not necessarily as a plan B, but also because I'm more personally inclined towards Conservative.

Luck be with you in your choices,
beware the atheists on these threads,
don't listen to anything they say !!
Listen only to what Moses said,
one can't do better than that.
But.....if one hears some sense,
listen to me, I'll do you no harm !
Just kidding....wellllllcome aboard !

Welcome, OutbackGer.
While I find Judaism's current emphasis on ethics and justice admirable, in some ways it strikes me as a sort of highly evolved cherry-picking.
The God of Judaism, as depicted in the Tanakh, seems to me a tribal, authoritarian, war God.

I guess it would be OutbackGerTzedek!, but probably take many years before that happens.

I think Judaism, while tribal in origins, certainly has evolved over the centuries even within the pages of the Tanakh (with society going from tribes, to judges, to a monarch)

How "outback" are you really? I am in a regional area as well but JW's are pretty much everywhere, so no trouble finding spiritual family or a meeting place for worship.

Do you have a Christian background, or have you been drawn to Judaism because of being put off by the lack of education in the churches?

I have been a keen Bible student for over 45 years and I too love the study aspect and learning to put all the pieces of the puzzle together. I could not do that without the Hebrew scriptures. I see the Bible as one story...what began in Genesis is finalized in Revelation. Once you have all the pieces in place....it all makes perfect sense.

I hope you enjoy your time here. Just holler if you need

Welcome to the intersecting pot of POVs! We've got a little bit of everything here, including nuts....but I'll try to be coherent at times!

Hi Deejee

I live in what has been dubbed by many as the Bible belt regional town of Australia. I have kept to myself in terms of religious beliefs but there are a couple of atheist Jews in my town, and they've been really supportive in teaching me the culture and traditions as well getting in touch with people from the larger communities. And no my background isn't Christian.

Hii,
I want to know Is there is the difference between Shiva and Rudra?
Hi, I want to know is there a difference between the responses one gets after posting an inquiry in a more appropriate thread and the responses one gets after posting on a thread that has absolutely nothing to do with the subject of the question?
