I watched the first one. Not by choice. I faked my excitement and smiles for my 3 year old.
He has apparently grown out of cartoons.
Good Daddy.
On a similar note, my 5 year-old is obsessed with Hairspray.

No way!
My boy watches that one and "Crybaby". He's got a thing for musicals...
He prances (yes ..... .....prances! ), shakes, and sings along.
Most of my friends are obsessed with high school musical. At their age!I started watching the first 10 minutes with my 7 year old brother, but I had to leave the room. The horrible acting and cheesy lyrics made me want to puke. Everyone has been brainwashed by Disney. This is NOT a good movie. It's been marketed very cleverly to the young kids, not to mention teenagers, in America and just about everywhere else. I find it disgusting.
It was just a very low quality version of Grease. Grease = entertainment. Post-Grease viewing of High School Musical = :'(
Grease and HSM are nothing alike. Grease is about teenage sex and drugs, etc. HSM is much more wholesome.
The plot is exactly the same. It's impossible NOT to compare them. The target audiences of HSM and Grease are completely different. I don't think the movies should even be compared.
The plot is the same. Jock boy meets a dorky girl he really likes, but can't allow his friends to see that he likes her. So he offends her to a rediculous degree by making jokes and the like to her in front of his friends to maintain his standing. In the end, though, he realises that the girl is better than his friends, and that friends aren't friends if they are so shallow, and in the end the friends realise it's silly to hate their best friend for the girl he likes. Exactly the same plot line, except Grease has the added benefit of actually discussing social concerns (like teenage sex and drugs, etc.) instead of just being frivolous. It's really only the details that differ.
