Yes, the enjoyment was momentary. BJP have lost and the caste-based parties have won. It is a big setback for BJP and they will have to struggle hard to keep themselves relevant. Actually, the parent organization, RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) conceded some self-goals:

1. Trying to tinker with reservations for powerful "other backward classes", nothing achieved, only got them ill-will of "other backward classes". 2. Not being able to control the prices of onions and lentils. Not imported at the right time when the prices were going up. 3. Beef, unnecessary, since beef is already banned in most states. 4. Ghar-wapasi, re-conversions to Hinduism. They did not being many to Hindu fold but vitiated the environment. 5. Trying to tinker with Muslim personal law. In the General election, Muslims also had voted for BJP, but it could not retain the support because of subsequent actions.

Conclusion: BJP will have to stick with secular agenda. Strident Hindutva will not only turn Muslims against BJP but Hindus too.

sorry I know little about Indian politics , ...could you explain a little more about Re-conversion to Hinduism , ...how and when has it been proposed ? and what has the responce been ?, please give more of your thoughts on it , ....

it also worries me that the strident Hindutva attitude will cause strife between Muslim and Hindu this surely would be counterproductive and again cause suffering ? , ...please also give a little more of your thoughts it would realy help those outside India to understand the current situation .

I think BJP will do a course correction because there are more elections to come. Immediately next is Assam where Muslims have a large presence.

Ghar Wapasi (Return back home): "While addressing the conference, Yogi Adityanath said religious conversion was an “anti-national act” and it must be stopped. “An aggressive campaign is required for 'ghar wapsi' of those Hindus, who had converted to other religions in the past,” he added."

While I see no harm if people who had converted to Islam or Christianity want to come back to the Hindu fold, it has to be their own choice. No force or inducement should be used to achieve this. Aggressive campaigns bring aggressive responses. Some members of BJP have failed to understand this. Below is one of such examples. In the current election, attempts for 'Ghar Wapasi' turned many Muslims who had previously voted for BJP away from it.

Bjp lost because there is no CM face in bihar and mostly due to bad media coverage and people sadly do not have long term vision and are leaning towards short term tendencies, they even forget the corruption by non bjp parties...That is why I always maintained that democracy is farce and it does not work! Some guy comes and eats some money during his tenure and tries to do some better in his next term where he will be replaced by another guy who does the same...rinse and repeat...india should lose democracy for it to actually develop among many things and mainly Narendra Modi should keep away from state politics, he cannot do rallies for each state him being Prime minister of country, the state leaders should grow up and take responsibility...

That is the main problem. Regional BJP leaders will not do anything but simply hope that Modi will do everything for them.

Mixed feelings on this one, I suppose. Caste-based parties worse than BJP, I think. But to be honest, there's no Indian political parties I'd be fully behind!

A colleague of mine from Maharashtra said 'In India, you're not a politician unless you can kill someone.'

We had a nice person in Sushil Modi (next in popularity to Nitish Kumar), but not one who was an undisputed leader of the party in the State. BJP will have to do something about it ASAP. They need one name for each state.
