Well since I have seen HIV/AIDS brought up in several threads, ..
I thought I would ask what others won't.(I do that often)

Why Is the Risk of Contracting HIV Higher in Gay Men?

This is not a question of opinion. At least in the US gay and bisexual men do account for most cases of HIV and AIDS and do have much higher risks of acquiring and spreading HIV.

False dichotomy, because MSM is broader in that categorization, it isn't just homosexuals, it falls under bisexual, etc.

Really the group that is at risk is the one that just has sex irresponsibly with no consideration for protection, really, that isn't a sexual orientation thing, it's sexual behavior

Gay men specifically, as gay women spread much less than heterosexual do. With bisexual men and women who have anal sex following.

However, with prep and sex ed the number has been steadily declining. And with modern medicine most people with HIV or even full blown AIDS can still live long healthy lives.
As is the case with all anal sex, extra care needs to be taken so that it can be done safely. And people who do it shouldn't be met with judgement or derision, or to be used as political barter chips.

Not voted for the reason that the poll is faulty. Whether one gets HIV or STD depends on what the person and his/her partner do and with whom. Heterosexuals have just as much chance of being infected as the homosexuals, and boh are known to have been careless in the heat of the moment.

I sometimes wish the same kind of disdain was given to heterosexual men who have a lot of sexual partners or go to prostitutes.

I would think that because there is no risk of pregnancy with men who have sex with men (not necessarily gay men, bisexuality and prostitution/porn may account for some numbers, as is my understanding) would account for condoms not being used often. Thus increasing the risk of the spread of STDs.

At least that’s what was taught to me in my sex ed class. Which sounds reasonable to me, if I’m honest

But as someone else kindly pointed out, the numbers are rather reversed in gay women. So I mean, lesbian sex is clearly superior

Not sure you understand what sexual behavior is, because monogamy v. polygamy and the like falls under that. Which means it's about how you have sex overall, not who you're attracted to as some would claim to demonize a group

Does it really matter who spreads HIV/AIDS more? I mean HIV is an illness that could kill you. We should be helping anyone who has it. Shouldn't matter the orientation. And everyone should be practicing safe sex doesnt matter if they gay or straight or some other orientation. Problem is folk dont know crap about safe sex in the US cuz our school system.

I looked for statistics for worldwide cases but only found the CDC numbers I linked to. Seems only the US (and UK) are interested in differentiating between sexual orientations when it comes to AIDS.

Perfect reason for more MSM to get on PrEP, which is 99% effective at preventing the spread of HIV when taken daily.

Not sure you understand the meaning of rationalizing

This, has nothing to do with demonize (if they think that, then that demon is in their head, never in mine...I'm not like that)

I just use common sense and discrimination (the other meaning, using your "God" given faculty to think and reason)

Simple illustration:
IF you socialize a lot
AND your immunesystem is compromized
AND you don't vaccinate against Covid
(or any other dangerous virus)
THEN you might get Covid (virus) easier
(unless God protects you)

Exactly the same as what I described with HIV/AIDS

Why Is the Risk of Contracting HIV Higher in Gay Men?

My guess is that the homosexual community is still the larger group for infections, but it is pretty wide spread. I remember a study years back showing that in the SF area about 1/3rd of new cases were drug resistant. That was quite concerning.
