So I work with a lot of produce, and I've had a few people from the Jewish community approach and ask for particular foods containing lots of seeds for a holiday coming soon. I was considering making it a selling point "pomegranates! Perfect for xxxxxxxxx" but I've forgotten the name of the holiday. Would anyone like to enlighten me?

So the seeds are symbols for new growth, yes? And it's basically any fruits with a lot of seeds - pomegranate, dragonfruit, raspberries, kiwifruit etc?

It's the hope that our good deeds will be as numerous as the seeds.

The pomegranate is traditional just as an apple dipped in honey it our traditional expression of the wish for a sweet year.
The pomegranate is a biblical fruit found in the Levant and was said to contain 613 seeds, the same number of the mitzvot found in the Torah.

Thanks guys :) many U.S. pomegranates were sold today! I wrote a sign, and got some very positive feedback, being that Jewish holidays are not very well known here...

"may your good deeds be many, happy Rosh hashanah"

A fair few people asked about it and what it meant, so Wellington is all the more knowledgeable for it:)

As a point of advice, don't advertise the fruits for Yom Kippur or put out a sign saying "Happy Yom Kippur". As it's a fasting day and we review our sins for the year, neither sentiment is appropriate.
