Homosexuality and Homosexual Marriages: Why do Christians Care?

Many Christians that I have known are very self righteous, they seem to like putting down everything that they don't agree with, and I believe that keeps them in the illusion that they are right and everything else is wrong, I feel very sorry for them.

That's OK. Yes! It's OK! ....... until it impinges upon decent people who love each other and want to marry. And then somebody needs to just keep them back from interferring.
No, it's not OK, because it's a very poor reading comprehension of the book (rather, as is more often the case, a lack of reading more than what is talked about in Sunday sermons) that gives legitimacy to those who use the Bible to justify their wicked deeds, because indeed the Bible has no shortage of verses that put them in the right according to Jehovah. It's this "whatever floats your boat" mentality with religion that allows for a toxic, poisonous, and deadly ideology to spread and thrive. This comes in many forms, such as not caring about Climate Change because god is going to burn up the Earth anyways, denying basic rights and liberties to the LBGT crowd, severe repression against women, and even violence than may be a Christian physically attacking an Atheist, or even a Muslim blowing themselves up and killing as many as they possibly can.

But this is a thread about Christian's bigotry against Gays, so we look to Jesus.
We are probably more exact about that because Christians choose several others for their Christian prophets!

But Christians can be such TERRIBLE thieves!!!!
Our prisons are FULL of thieves and many are Christians, and yet it's quite dangerous for gays to be amongst some of these, you know.
Jesus was against priests who were supposed to uphold laws protecting the working people, and they were doing NOTHING to care for such. Hypocrites all!
Read John the Baptist.

Jesus was not against Lesbians either. I just mentioned in passing how women were very very close to each other in that culture. I just mentioned in passing, that women together menstruate together, and at those times live together. I just though you'd be intertested, is all.

----------------------------------
Jesus.... last prophet?
Now many Christians would take you to task over that sentence, you know.

There are thousand of differing Christian Creeds and Denominations, and I suppose that some would be less inclined to Paul's bigoted rants...?

1. no this thread is asking Christians why they care or take part in discussion with homosexuality in society. if there is a claim of bigotry, explain it.

1b again you make no sense with poor expmaination and no example. may you elaborate on other prophets?

2. yes many people in prison claim to be christian. some find it after they are imprisoned as there are interfaith groups that help and participate at prisons. a good way to pass the time in comparison to gang fights.

otherwise you note a coorelation that doesn't depict christian morality.

3. Jesus was here for more than priests and addressed everyone. only his main antagonists were pharacies. however there were some priests that had no problem with Jesus and lived as they should.

4. men used to kiss o the lips in many cultures to depict affection or hate. women bathed together and boys swam naked. none of this equates to homosexuality. it was a different culture and a different time.

4b. again you make a statement based on what Jesus didnt say, but since he didnt say it. must be okay? wrong! we dont have to have Jesus say everything and make a comment on every topic to continue understanding what we ought or ought not do.

5. no there are not thousands of different creeds there are just a handful which sone share. then you have a bunch of non denominationals that pick or choose from the other creeds.

Jesus really attacked the priesthood hard!
With words and with deeds and actions.

Let's face it, many Christians just cherry-pick their way through the rules, ignoring what they want to, and picking on what they feel self-righteous about.

That's OK. Yes! It's OK! ....... until it impinges upon decent people who love each other and want to marry. And then somebody needs to just keep them back from interferring.

:)

1. many athiests, muslims, and others cherry pick Christianity to support their own claims. many people do this.

while some just dont understand 100% of the religion or belief thwy claim or want to learn.

2. there are some homosexual groups/ individuals that argue against same sex marriage as well as poligamy, beastiality, pedophilia, etc. etc. there have already been mock marriages online as well as to other things, which a good number would oppose as well.

what is the difference huh? all these things affect society. if a person wants to partake in society then they can have an open discussion about it and even vote against some of it.

know first cousins and siblings cant marry?

I agree and disagree. because many Christians care about the earth, and like me, understand that we need to take care based on readings in Bible.

I shall not kill. I was taught this includes bullying and other abuses of the human person.

all from not nick-picking and reading the Bible.

Wow! A rant?
Keep going with that.
Sometimes it's better not to try to win a debate...... better to just let folks lose it.

Gay marriage is right, and just, and here to stay.

Jesus never spoke against it, and you know that.

This debate is about those Christians who care about Gay Marriage an' all.

Now so far you have not shown any knowledge of your faith in as much as you continue on about Gay Marriage as 'not good'.

Where..... Oh where.... did Jesus ever say a word in strong disagreement with LOVE?

If you want you can quote his 'I didn't come here to change the law' speech, but that can only get you into one deal of difficulty methinks, because you have NOT kept the 613 laws, I'll bet! D

3. there is a difference between picking up a stone and telling someone what they are doing is wrong or a sin.
Both are condemned in the Bible:

Romans 14:4
Who are you to pass judgment on another’s servant? Before his own master he stands or falls. And he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand.
IOW, if that other person is sinning, that's sin between him and God and is none of your business. All you need to know is that God's got the situation under control.

Passing judgement on other people is an attempt on your part to play God.

I shall not kill.
Most people wouldn't. But a good part of the people who are willing, eager even, to kill people are very deeply religious.
I was taught this includes bullying and other abuses of the human person.
I actually do interpret the Bible to not have any passages where someone can point to in order to justify discrimination or bullying. The Jews are forbidden from marrying non-Jews, we find nothing else regulating commerce or business practices and nothing really about shaming and bullying people.
Jesus never spoke against it, and you know that.
I know Jesus didn't. However those laws that Jesus specifically states he is not doing away with do speak against homosexuality. Jesus' message isn't to ignore the law, it's to not judge those who have because we're all guilty of something. If it were not for his bit about how those who relax the laws will be considered lesser, I'd almost think he was anti-death penalty, but I suppose a better interpretation may just be he wants people to mind their own business over things that really matter, and especially in the case of fornication, there was probably no use with those ready to throw stones to pretend they themselves hadn't done it at some point in their lives. A modern equivalent I suppose would be smoking pot. Even before legalization gained favor, lots of people were doing it, and much the crimes of the woman Jesus spared, pot is a victimless crime.
Overall, with a couple objections, I don't think Jesus had a bad message. It's just attached some rather unfortunate baggage.

Yes I do, I was a Christian for many years.
so you know how you felt as a Christian going through your life. you may relate - but knowing what or how another person is thinking is impratical.

please lets be real here. there is no logical manner for you to speak for me, out side of me telling you. suggestions are welcone but open to error.

we may relate to one another, but speaking for millions of people? you should not be taken serious on that note.

It's no different than my own situation. I used to be a very Conservative Bible-thumping Baptist. I have insights and understandings into that mentality that many do not have because it's what I grew up as. When I say something like how they are very paranoid that the Devil is hiding in the shadows and the world is out to get them, I say that because I have set through countless sermons and am intimately familiar with what they teach and preach.

Simple to see you do not understand religion you speak about.

""some homosexual activists have argued that moral imperatives from the Old Testament can be dismissed since there were certain ceremonial requirements at the time—such as not eating pork, or circumcising male babies—that are no longer binding.

While the Old Testament’s ceremonial requirements are no longer binding, its moral requirements are. God may issue different ceremonies for use in different times and cultures, but his moral requirements are eternal and are binding on all cultures. ""

There are different aspects to Christian religion and how we grew from Judiasm. this needs to be understood and studied before jumping to conclusions.

Oh - so homosexuality is like, say, the command to leave the edges of your field unreaped (for charity, to allow the destitute to gather that part of the crop for themselves)?

Do Christians keep that moral commandment?

Both are condemned in the Bible:

Romans 14:4

IOW, if that other person is sinning, that's sin between him and God and is none of your business. All you need to know is that God's got the situation under control.

Passing judgement on other people is an attempt on your part to play God.

Hasty development. you co fuse the words judgement with informing.

1. romans 14: 3 - 4. 3 Let not the first, over his meat, mock at him who does not eat it, or the second, while he abstains, pass judgement on him who eats it. God, after all, has found room for him.4 Who art thou, to pass judgement on the servant of another? Whether he keeps his feet or falls,[3] concerns none but his master. And keep his feet he will; God is well able to give him a sure footing.

as we may see the key word is judgement.

2. Judgement is to mock or to cast out an individual. which goes against God's desire for us which is a community.

So stop mixing english words in together when they have different meanings. there has always been a command to work together and discourage others from sin. this has historical support.

3. Community is what we are supposed to have. though God may have it covered, we are also suggested to pray for one another and to do acts of giving. to take care of each other. this includes spiritualy as well as material
