Homosexuality and religion

We were talking about marriage within the context of the church.

Actually this issue has nothing to do with the church - except that they don't want to perform gay marriages.

And they don't have to.

They have been told in every USA attempt to pass such that they Do not have to perform such if they don't want to. The couple could be married at a court, or by a Pagan religion, or the churches that already perform such marriages, etc.

Yeah I definitely don't agree with forcing churches to marry same sex couples against their will. I mean, don't get me wrong, I am all for gay marriage. However, I totally do not support forcing a religion to go against their beliefs.

Lol Zoogirl; I'm gonna have to get used to you supporting gay marriage. It's like hearing Bill O'Reilly say he loves black people. Good for you though; I'm glad you've changed your mind.

Thanks! :) I'm actually Bisexual myself so that plus the fact that all people are equal and therefore should have equal rights just makes sense to me. :rainbow1:

I don't know anyone who would want to marry their same sex partner in a church that doesnt agree with same sex marriage. Just not logical.

I actually know several gay Christians that want to be married in the Church they were raised in, and believe in. They are followers of Jesus.

But - the first step is to just change the law so gay people have the right to marry in all of the states.

Would they force them to marry them though even if the church was 100% against it?

Hmmm...
The title of the thread seems to be: Homosexuality and religion...

It actually does not.

The church seems to think because they don't want to perform marriages for Gays; then gays should not be allowed to marry - period.

But this is actually about gay people's right to marry - and marriage is NOT exclusive to Abrahamic religions.

These gay couples could marry at a court, or in Pagan religions, or those churches that already perform such for Gay couples.

As a xtian, I feel it is my religious obligation to tolerate and respect all of humanity including members of the LGBTQI community. I think if jesus were alive today, he'd be appalled at radical right-wingers in America subverting the Bible to promote hate. It's definitely not what jesus taught when he was upon this earth.

My church is relatively progressive and we have performed one or two same-sex marriages this year. It's the same ceremony and at the end of the day, it's two people who love each other getting together to share the rest of their lives. I wouldn't have it any other way.
