This is going to be interesting. It takes 2/3 vote to expel a member. It would take 290 votes to do that. It would take 76 Republicans for this to happen. 126 Republicans voted to pass the Continuing Resolution yesterday. If only 76 of them are get on board, Gaetz could be gone.

I have no love for Matt, but I don’t think this will work. And if it did work it would create a bad precedent.

Article I, section 5 of the United States Constitution provides that "Each House [of Congress] may determine the Rules of its proceedings, punish its members for disorderly behavior, and, with the concurrence of two-thirds, expel a member."

I'm not willing to turn off my ad blocker for Fox News, which blocks me from seeing the story. What are the actual procedural or legal grounds for doing that? Is it just "disorderly behavior" as noted in the post above this one? If so, what exactly was the "disorderly behavior"?

Sure, I didn't say or mean to imply it was unconstitutional.

But I think it is a big reach to assume that the 126 who voted for the CR will vote to expel one of their own. They might hate him, but he is one of theirs, and this is politics.

And if this goes forth you know one of the other MAGA idiots are going to try doing it too. We will end if with an expulsion every week. We know the real reason they are trying to impeach Biden is because Trump got impeached (twice), so we know how petty they are.

The House Ethics Committee has been investigating Gaetz since 2021 on allegations, including campaign finance violations as well as claims of taking bribes and using drugs – accusations the congressman has vehemently denied.
