House votes to hold US attorney general in contempt over Mueller subpoena

Kangaroo Feathers

Yea, it is written in the Book of Cyril...
The House Judiciary Committee has moved to hold Attorney General William Barr in contempt of Congress for ignoring a subpoena to provide the Special Counsel’s full report on Russian election interference and all of its underlying evidence.

Mr Barr defied the subpoena after the Department of Justice claimed there was no basis for the request and threatened to urge Donald Trump to invoke executive privilege over the report in a scathing letter sent to Congress.

Voting to hold the attorney general in contempt lays the foundation for Congress to file a civil lawsuit, as well as a criminal referral to be sent to the US attorney’s office in Washington. However, the courts could simply order Congress and the Justice Department to solve the inter-branch dispute amongst themselves, constitutional law experts have told The Independent.

Tis fascinating how pro-Trumpettes sound just like anti-Trumpettes.

You'd rather one, the other, or both sides skip the warm-up exercises and go straightway to the fighting? As they say over on the other side of the pond, "that wouldn't be cricket." Over here, you're supposed warn the other side that you're coming.

No problem. Congress doesn't need the Mueller report. If necessary, the House Democrats can repeat the entire investigation (and more), then generate an equivalent report themselves. One committee can specialize in obstruction of justice, another in conspiring with the Russians, another in tax fraud and money laundering, another on banking fraud, another on violations of the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, another on violations of campaign financing laws, and get this done in six months.

It would likely be more damning than the Mueller report appears to be, which apparently didn't look into much of that list of possible crimes. If so, they'll wished that they had turned over Mueller's report rather than provoke a second, more thorough investigation, this time run by people that Trump has been trashing for years who may hold grudges - people like Pelosi, Schiff, and Waters

This is much more interesting than cricket.

D'ya think so? Just wait till the 2020 election when the Donald breaks the news that's he not going to vacate the White House whether he wins or loses the popular election OR the Electoral College vote.
Trump derangement syndrome.

Aye, .. just hope we recover from it faster than the Red Hats suffering from Post-Obama-Clinton Derangement Syndrome. They're still suffering.

Frankly, we have far bigger fish to fry. I'd rather Congress actually focus on things vital for the continued health and prosperity of the nation, like cleaning up our polluted ecosystems, reducing the use of plastic, protecting free speech, preventing the student debt bubble from bursting, incentivizing green industry, solving the humanitarian crisis at the border, tackling homelessness and revitalizing America's rotten inner cities. All this political football is a waste of everybody's time and it's not the thing we elected our Congresspeople to do. If the Democrats ran on issues that people in the real world actually care about, they could stand a chance at actually beating Trump in the election. Stop appealing to the fringes and start promoting things that everyone can get behind.

More than likely the Courts will make the DoJ and Congress work it out between themselves. But either way it doesn't matter, this will be tied up in court for years. Trump will be done with his 2nd term by then and the Dems will be guilty of wasting 8+ years worth of time and 40 million dollars so far all because they are butt hurt Hillary is a dirty corrupt politician.

Of course Barr has a strong countersuit should he wish. Congress asked him to commit a felony by unredacting grand jury info, which is the reason he refused to show up. So to try and file charges on him of contempt, when he was simply following the law and doing his job, was very foolish.

These are all things that Donald Trump has been fighting against.

I agree that Congress should work hard to promote environment issues and to fight climate change. There is the Green New Deal. But little is going to be accomplished with this President and this Republican Senate.
