How can one, as an individual, be critical of Israel without seeming anti Semitic?

Are Israeli politics and religion so inextricably linked that neither can be subjected to questions?

There is Judaism, and being ethnically Jewish. Two different things, IMHO. We certainly can question Israel (modern day) on a anything we'd like - it is a nation state, just like the USA - what that has to do with their religion is irrelevant. There are also a huge percentage of atheists in the Israeli population, something that many people do not know. They still call themselves "Jews", but do not participate in the faith because hereditarily they are related to those people.

I sincerely hope not. The two obvious problems are:
  1. Criticism of Israeli politics (however warranted) is a powerful magnet attracting antisemites and antisemitic criticism.
  2. Irresponsible charges of antisemitism are too often used to deflect just criticism of Israel.

Personally, I wish the word "antisemitic" would drop out of use. It's a stupid word, coined to make antiJewish sentiments seem less irrational. The more accurate terms, Zionist and Israeli and Judaic believer and Jew, get used carelessly if at all.
People on all sides of an issue will do this. But you can be harshly critical of Zionism without referring to Jewish believers, in fact they are often the harshest critics. Many Israelis are culturally Jewish, but not Zionist or believers. The word antisemitic just mushes too many things together and invites inaccuracy and abuse.

I've just stopped worrying about it. When you can be called an anti-semite for doing nothing but disagreeing with a Jewish person, it's an accusation that's lost all force.

Just be critical of Israel, what it's now racist to say Israel isn't a ****ing wonderland? Oy Gevalt!
It's not racist to criticize something. Or do you think it's islamaphobic to criticize islam too?

I have no problem with Jewish people, but the country of Israel i do not like.

Our founded republic in 1776 bears no resemblance to the anti-democratic police state that has declared war on its citizens, and provokes needless wars in the Middle East at the behest of Israel. At the center of it all is the parasitic control of the Israel Lobby on the U.S. government. The Lobby, evangelical Christians and neo-cons rode to power in the 1980s and proceeded to turn the United States into Israel's willing executioner.

We fight wars for them, and they raid the our U.S.Treasury through the Federal reserve. Israel is not only becoming a nuisance for the world at large but also creating intractable problems for her chief guardian angel United States.

Washington needs to stop its billions of dollars of annual aid to Israel. Since its creation by the western powers, Israel has successfully sucked well over US$3 trillion from the US taxpayers. One day this money will no longer be forthcoming, for one reason or another. That will be Israel’s Day of Reckoning.
