How do/don't you celebrate Xmas

Are you around people who do celebrate Christmas during the season? If so, how do they react to your not participating/

Actually it works very well...family and friends understand why I choose not to celebrate and accept it....but, I also respect their choice to celebrate

But does that mean that early Christians didn't even celebrate their own birthdays?

That's exactly what it means. The Jews were warned not to adopt the customs and false religious practices of the former inhabitants of the promised land.
Celebrating one's birth was tied in with magic and astrology...both found in paganism and condemned in God's word. (Deut 18:9-12)

So much of the traditions observed in birthday celebrations have their roots in pagan practices. The "wishes" for the celebrant; the candles on the cake; these were thought to carry wishes to the gods by the flames of the candle. Then there is the undue elevation of the individual on 'their' special day, which is again never promoted in the scriptures....all these things have false religious connotations.

If the Jews did not celebrate their birthdays, and there is no record of any true worshipper of God doing so in the Bible, why would we adopt those practices as if God has somehow changed his mind about these things?

If Jesus didn't celebrate his own birthday, and neither did any other true worshipper of Jehovah, then we are fooling ourselves if we think God will excuse it now.

It is one thing to be ignorant of the facts, but when the facts are known and ignored, that is a whole different matter.

What do people customarily do at birthday celebrations, generally speaking? Doesn't that say it all?

You don't like getting stuff for free that you've been wanting for a while? What's wrong with you? :D

I rest my case your honor.....

What has over-eating, over-drinking, decorated trees and a greedy grab for presents got to do with honoring Jesus Christ?
Are you a typical bloke who probably doesn't have to do much at this time of year.

I see the women, all harried and hassled, dragging the kids around the stores and supermarkets whining their heads off, while she fills up the trolly with food, snacks, drinks and stocking stuffers.

When they ask me in the queue if I have finished my Christmas shopping, I tell them I don't celebrate Christmas and they look at me with envy. "I wish I didn't have to" they tell me, so I say, "you have a choice you know". They often go off with a serious look on their face, like someone has just pointed out something so obvious, it hasn't ever occurred to them.

So many people are slaves to a tradition that has now become so commercialized that if one doesn't spend thousands of dollars on Christmas presents, it just won't be Christmas! Who really can afford this event in today's economic climate?

All I can say is, I am so grateful to have broken free. I see the sheep lining up to be fleeced every year and I say to them "why do you do this to yourself"?

It's not a Christian celebration and never was. That should be enough to make some sit up and take notice.....surely.
