How do I deal with a Neo-Nazi?

I hate to say it man but if you continue to be Asatru and meet more people of different kindreds you will continue to deal with this issue in one form or another, at higher and higher levels of sophistication. To this day I have friends who other of my friends firmly believe to be crypto-nazis, whom I am reasonably certain are not. These friends have had their shows shut down due to potential action by anti-fascist punks. They are certainly pagans, but as far as I can tell espouse no racial platform which I can see. You'd think these antifa people would have actual Nazi's to fight (I guess they do in europe), but it seems they have enough extra time to spend harassing bands with runes on their album covers.

You don't you let them hit rock bottom if you really care for them, and I hate to say it's just like a drug addict. They're probably going to end up in jail for a hate crime, and after they get raped by their Aryan brothers they'll turn around and realize we're all just people.

Somehow I doubt that would be the response they would do. Somehow I expect a more likely response would be suicide.

Besides, how can you think it's acceptable to sit there and say "let them hit rock bottom, go to prison and get raped"? This person's ignorance is awful, but so is wishing ill on another people.

I'm sorry to hear that, but it is no surprise. A great deal of right-wingers use Norse symbols for hatred. Many do not understand that Ásatrúars exist and are a real religion with actual practitioners.

Have your friends considered putting up a symbol that shows they are not fascists or racists in their band and logos? For example:

Adding this into the corner of their album covers, and a small sticker on the drums or something like that?

I'm sure if the anti-fascist groups learn that they are not fascists, but are sincere practitioners of a religion, they would be okay? Or am I being too much of an optimist?

Thoughts?

Honestly, I think you may be a little optimistic. Unfortunately, many racists and neo-Nazis also are "Asatruar", if you can really call it that. I guess a better term may be WOTANists. It is a true shame that in countries like Germany, the first response to a person/band with any sort of runes or Pagan symbols is to assume that they are neo-Nazis. Basically, you have to defend your position that you aren't a neo-Nazi and prove that you are a Pagan who isn't a racist. Some German bands include things like that, but not that symbol. (Such as the German band Varg, who's slogan is "Varg und Fans gegen Nazis und gegen Hetzer" which means "Varg and fans against Nazis and against Hate.")

The neo-Nazis and white supremacists have truly taken Paganism a step backwards, because now us non-Racists have to reclaim our symbols to be symbols of our religion and not hate symbols. For example, if I were to get a Sowilo rune tattoo, people would equate it with the S rune used by the S.S. Or, if I were to get a sun cross (Celtic Cross) tattoo, I'd be a white supremacist. It's truly a shame.

Yeah, it seems like I'm being a bit optimistic, but I think it may be a step in the right direction to discourage the anti-fascists from being, well, fascists, lol.

Oh yes, definitely a step. There is also a site called "Heathens Against Hate," who are working on getting a positive image for the known Pagan symbols used by the Nazis.

What about those two stickers on the albums and drum kits, or something?
Shows that they are a religious band, and oppose hate?

Well, I'm sure that many bands would employ them, but the symbols unfortunately aren't widely known. And even then, I'm not sure that it would make a huge difference, other than maybe stopping the cancellation of a Heathen music festival (which has happened in the past. Thanks, Nazis!)

That stopping would be a good start though.

It's our duty to make the symbols and groups more known so we can discourage such things from happening - so we can stop hate for the sake of people trying to stop hate. What do you think?

Oh, of course! I know that if my band ever gets its act together and starts doing shows, I'm going to have a Heathens Against Hate sticker or something.

Then spread the message during that time until you do, and wishing you success in getting some shows under your belt. :D

Actually I find "educating" someone who has a stubborn racist attitude is actually counter-productive since his or her stubborness will essentially dismiss any attempt to be "educated."
