How does sin create a virus?

Rawshak

Member
Further to my thread on the Christian God and coronavirus some Christians informed me that sin was the cause of the coronavirus.

Sin. an immoral act considered to be a transgression against divine law.

Virus. an infective agent that typically consists of a nucleic acid molecule in a protein coat, is too small to be seen by light microscopy, and is able to multiply only within the living cells of a host.

So how does a sin create a virus, what is the process?

About time he did it for the oldies, after all, the kiddies are so fed up after dying from their childhood illnesses for so long.
I am hoping a Christian will explain how sin creates viruses, but you make a good point are all viruses the product of this relationship between sin and a virus?

The virus itself is a natural agent, it did not manifest out of thin air as a result of sin. Nonetheless, traditional Christian belief does hold that God can and will permit natural evils to afflict nations as a chastisement for sin. The more the God is profaned and ignored the more his blessings are withdrawn and the more susceptible we become to being afflicted with various evils such as pandemics or natural disasters.

The belief is not that sin manifested a virus out of nothing, but that God may have permitted this pandemic at least in part as a chastisement of a sinful humanity. And indeed there are numerous passages in the Bible which warn that the protective hand of the divine is partly conditional on man's faithfulness to the divine law. This pandemic should at the very least give us an appreciation for just how fragile our lives are. How fragile our global order really is. An appreciation for our fragility may perhaps inspire some people to turn to God and get their spiritual houses in order. ('Cause you never know when you'll be summoned to meet him directly).

Well obviously kiddies are so sinful - such naughty behaviour all the time - so why wouldn't a God target them? And their innocence being a subterfuge of course. But of course one could just say that since most parents love their children, God is targeting them by proxy by harming the children. And one could follow this line of argument for almost anything.

It is not sin that creates the virus then but the Christian God?

Selflessly here for you
Dear Rawshak,

I do not know enough about the origins of the current virus to be able to comment on it specifically but generally speaking, from a spiritual perspective, illness is seen as a warning sign, telling us that we are doing something wrong.

By that is not meant that a particular individual who falls ill is doing something wrong (whatever illness exists, will affect whomever comes across its causes), but rather, that Mankind as a whole is living wrongly and that we all, collectively, contribute to this.

As some may have seen a film called “Dark Waters”, let’s take the example of the different types of cancers caused by Teflon. Consider how many things we use on a daily basis that contain this material and how helpless we are to avoid being affected by it.
But Teflon is not the sin here, nor is using your frying pan, right? As with many things that cause illness, the sin behind the example of Teflon-caused cancer is human greed.

I may now say that I myself am not greedy. How am I then contributing to this issue? We must here truthfully ask ourselves though: does not our neighbour’s greed say anything about us too…?

The wording of this question is awkward. Obviously God is the creator. From the biggest star to the smallest virus.

But I don't think anyone is saying any one sin 'caused' the pandemic. But for a Christian, it must be accepted that God does permit evils to afflict the world. And one reason God may permit an evil is for the sake of chastisement. The thing to take on faith is that nothing God permits will fail in bringing about a greater good. Even if it is a greater good we won't see until all is revealed at the final judgement.

Hypothetical: Wuhan originated in the Wuhan market

Just see the dirt and filth there; sin to me means acting irresponsible

Hence very obvious to me that viruses originate in Wuhan and less in Holland

Sin does not create a virus, it gives the conditions that they can thrive in this material world.

So if it is good to maintain hygiene, this will not give the conditions for a virus to multiply, if it is bad to neglect hygiene, then the virus has been given the conditions it requires to multiply.

Do you think it ok for the Christian God to harm others who are from a different faith, would it be ok for me to harm others from a different faith because I disprove of what they are doing?

Wet Markets have existed all around the world for thousands of years, why do you think the Christian God chose now to kill so many people?

Thank you for all the replies from Christians but I do not think you are the right sort of Christian to have the deep understanding that some Christians have.

Here is what one Christian said,

I asked.

Do you think sin creates viruses?

The answer

Yes.

No room for doubt there, I expect the correct sort of Christian will be along soon.

This is IMO non sense.
First, "God" is supposed to have made everything and secondly, all vira undergoes a constant process of mutation in nature and if some humans are having troubles with this, they should optimize their immune system by sound food, motion and social engagements.
IMO vaccination in itself isn´t sufficient enough to boost a immune defense which isn´t OK optimized by natural ways.

I think the base idea is that death has been brought to this world by sin. That is also what caused T-Rexes to very fast change their diet from strict vegetarianism, and develop a new set of teeth double quick.

I mean, when people believe the Universe is 6000 years old, that dinos and humans coexisted like in the Flintstones, that women have been literally created with a rib, that serpents can talk and prophets can live three days in a big tuna, etc. etc. etc. ... expecting them to be able to provide some rational arguments to explain the genesis of viruses and their relationship with sin, might be a hopeless endeavour.

The "theory" I heard from a fundie (also a nurse) is that
Satan made the virus, but God allowed it, & will only stop
it when enuf Christians sincerely pray.
I must acknowledge that I'm unfamiliar with this branch of science.

Disclaimer:
This is not a criticism of Christianity, but rather
a particular pair of beliefs that I disagree with.

Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, in this way death spread to all people, because all sinned. Romans 5:12

Adam brought death into the world through his sin.

I don't know about sin creating viruses but our sins can cause us to be unwell.
