How exactly to stop re-sinning?

One life. One chance.
Hi,
My question that is on my mind is: since we need to ask to be forgiven always as we sin daily no matter what; when we pray for forgiveness of sins how do you maintain and stay like that? For instance I would be 'good' for a couple of days to weeks then I would somehow do the same mistake again. With that I suddenly be feel guilty and so bad about myself and also feel like I shouldn't even pray for forgiveness again if I know that I will do it again and again and again. I'm finding it so hard to be a good person with a good example. What do you people do to stay on track at least?

If I feel it's wrong I do not do it again

If you feel what you're doing is wrong, stop doing it. I don't see the problem.

If you think natural things you genuinely can't control are wrong (feelings, for example) you need to rethink your sense of right and wrong.

If this is your belief then simply stop commiting the sin. You haven't specified the sin so it's hard to really discuss it. As I understand it, continuing the sin means you are not truly sorry, and if you are not truly sorry you will not be forgiven. So are you truly sorry or not?

To an orthodox Christian if God says it's a sin it is. However as always I would ask the OP to question. The supposed word of God is touched by man who is imperfect, especially imperfect when viewed through a Christian lense. We add our own superstitions, ignorant fears, agendas, etc into everything, even gods word. OP cannot stop commiting the sin, perhaps it's a sin of man rather than of God and therefore not a sin at all.

I don't claim that my thoughts mesh with that of mainstraim Christianity, though I do consider myself very much a Christian.

I think it's a process of being in a repentive state of mind. Not a self-loathing state by any means, but an awareness of sin. We can't possibly as humans remember every wrong doing or achieve perfection in any way. I don't think God has this expectation of us that we should stop what we're doing and request forgiveness for every singular sin. It's really not possible.

But, we were instructed to repent and to strive towards being Christ like. So, I think it's more about living a life of being mindful of wrongdoings and asking for God's guidance in all that you do. When you're in that frame of mind, repenting comes naturally anyway, because you're in dialogue with God on a daily basis. If you died before you had a chance to apologize for doing something stupid, it doesn't null your salvation, when you talked with God over coffee that morning, if that makes any sense.

Fatalist. Christian. Pacifist.
There has to be actual work invested in your goal. You usually won't be able to stop unless there's something preventing you and/or pulling you in another direction. If you can, try finding something to replace that habit with.Your fasting from the habit is helping though, so I'd say continue that rather than submit to it altogether. Eventually, you'll leave it completely.

If you are a born-again believer with new life in Christ remember that you are dead to sin and risen to new life in Christ and the desire to sin will not have power in your life. When you keep your focus on Jesus it is His ability that keeps you from sin, not your own effort.

For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God. Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. Romans 6:10-12

Seems like you're saying that since he is sinning he's not actually a born again believer.

Don't you sin? If you sin; then what do you do? Please don't take it personal; it is relevant question in the context of your post and the topic being discussed here.

Thanks and regards

So you need to enter a constant state of walking meditation with Christ as the focus?

Thank you for your question. I don't take it personal at all and I do sin at times. I confess it to the Lord and ask Him to make me more aware and alert as soon as I start entertaining the thought of that sin the next time. I believe the mind is the battleground and the scriptures say to take our thoughts captive to Christ.
