How good are you at recycling?

To separate materials is something I am very methodical and inflexible about.

I get mad at someone who is not as good as me in doing that.. not like Serial Mom...though...:p

Honestly, it's not something I was concerned with while living in the States, but I am now that I live in Oz. They take recycling more serious here, like that crazy house wife. They won't empty your bin if you throw nonrecycables in it. If you're a repeat offender some places even go as far as issuing you clear bins as to publicly shame you.

When i left the uk they were just getting into recycling but with little enthusiasm. One day we had a slip posted through the door. To paraphrase *We are upgrading your refuse collection service, rather than a once weekly collection we will now collect "unrecyclable" waste once every 2 weeks. We will provide an extra bin dedicated to recyclable waste which will be collected on alternate weeks*.

And that was it.

France is a different thing, recycling is big with new records being set for recycling electrical goods and plastics. Although having a poor "lip service" record in the past, it now joins the countries with the best recycling record.

Our local mairie provides free waste sacks, black for non recyclable, yellow for recyclable. Really very easy to throw the right stuff in the right sack. Then take them to the communal poubelles (bins) every few days. The village poubelle area also has bins for glass, magazines and waste oil for recycling!

I believe that in the UK (where we lived anyway) they now provide a 3rd bin for compostable waste. That is not an option where we are in france, compostable waste is either taken to a designated skip at the dechetterie (area tip) or home composted. We use a composting bin, makes great compost

Very clever. Here municipality offices provide every house or condominium with bins like these. Organic, plastic, glass, paper and unrecyclable

It was an option here, votes taken etc. Either each property was provided with a bin for unrecyclable and a bin for recyclable which would end up standing in the street as an eyesore to what is a very pretty village that attracts many tourists. Or we can have have communal areas for rubbish and free sacks. Our village voted commune, the next village along voted individual. Although its a nice place i loath having to step into the road to pass bins

We are religious about it. We have more recycling going out than trash.

I was really angry when I learned that plastics go to Asia for recycling, and that most of it ends up in the Pacific ocean. There was a story not long ago 90% of all plastics in the Pacific come from just 10 rivers in Asia.

Just 10 rivers carry 90% of plastic polluting the oceans

Well, plastics, which are the biggest problem, aren’t being recycled. China used to take rhem, but has ceased doing so, or will, soon. So they get separated, picked up by city workers, and end up in landfills anyway.

I think you were in the movie..... hey, it’s the digital age
I must have been unconcious playing the part of an unconscious person, because I don't recall anything... especially getting paid.

I'm unsure whether to praise your taste in movies or condemn them.
